That was a poorly designed obverse, that final one - even UNC specimens don't have the best hair detail. But that one has very definite wear on the hair that crosses the laurel wreath immediately behind the ear. Not UNC, definitely not.

I think he meant to say UNCertain! Not a pretty coin, really!

It is a nice coin, but does have a light "x" scratch across the lower throat on the obverse!

A pleasing coin overall.

In hand a lot of blemishes will disappear.

I would pay EF plus a smidge if I was a 1d ite.

The seller is Martin Platt so take his grade with a pinch of salt. He generally ups ALL grades by at least 1 full grade if he can get away with it. He also uses acetone quite frequently on copper. He's recently changed his ebay name from *country*cottage*interiors* which is actually his wifes ebay id, his was *classic*british*coins*

Only EF and showing the suspicious uniform, light 'caramel' colour which suggests possible dipping.

Did you have something you wished to contribute Stuart?

Hah, yes, I was going to agree with Steve's post, but thought it would seem egoistic and cancelled, not completely it seems! :D

yes martin stopped miss grading coins a while ago - but looks like he has started with the overgradeing again - not that he is the only one to do it

Really? He stopped mis-grading? That must have been when he stopped selling on his own ebay account then for several weeks before starting again on his wifes ebay account. I also notice he's changed his own ebay name

yes he did he stopped describing everything he had on sale as ef or unc and just said things like "lovely grade" or other meaningless statements. - in the end even he got bored with his own overgradeing.

Seems not judging by his latest penny offering :)

Historyincoins is a reputable dealer as I recall, so I'd be surprised if it's a dud. Andrew Howitt I believe. Or have I got the wrong dealer?

Yes, Andrew, I've bought from him before!

We see duds in NGC slabs and major Auctions, being a reputable dealer is no security in my limited experience!

I'm not making any statement at all about authenticity, just that I have never seen the like of it before!

That can't be genuine, surely?

I'm confused. When you say the like, do you mean the coinage/type or the appearance of the coin giving a certain impression?
