As previously, I invite anyone interested to have a stab at predicting what grades CGS will assign to this batch of coins. Or, if you spot any varieties, or possible reasons for rejection, please state them.

They are at the Grading Level II stage at the moment.

Thanks to anyone who takes part!

Coin A - 1899 LXII Crown

Coin B - 1707 Half Crown

I will have a go but I have never been much good at guessing CGS grades.

My last coin took almost two months to move from Level II to Grade available (Encapsulation pending). So I guess we won't be getting the answers soon.

1899 crown: CGS 75 (has this been dipped before?)

1707 halfcrown: CGS 25

1911 halfcrown: CGS 88

1911 florin: CGS 88

1902 florin: CGS 80

1736 shilling: CGS 45

1911 shilling: CGS 85

1674 sixpence CGS 35

I would worry about the toning on that proof , I think its a lovely looking coin , but what will CGS think ?

I would worry more if it wasn't toned as normally 1911 proofs come toned due to the box they were stored in, normally with a blue interior.

Yes I'd expect the 1911 to be more toned than that.

Only ask as some looked chopped and some just normal backgrounds with different lighting.

Just something i am learning and wondered if they were the same batch why they didnt do them all the same ?.

That's a good spot Pete, the coins were all submitted at the same time, the only obviously different background for me is for the last 3 coins, why, I have no idea!

What do you mean by 'chopped'?

I actually think they have done a better-than-normal-for-them job of photographing this batch!

No expert and just having a guy taking pictures of some of mine in slabs and raw again today.

He altered the background of the obv and rev so they were on one picture combined without any difference in background colour.

As an example your pictures of A and E of your posts.

As you all know , I now have a thing about toning

I suspect that they all used the same background. The appearance of the background is dependent on the colour and reflectivity of the subject, so the duller the coin - the lighter the background will appear.

Agreed, I found it impossible to photo my gold plated penny and get the same background colour, it just goes instantly black because of the reflectivity.
