  1. 1856 rigsbankskilling currently being advertised by LCA for their December auction, with a suggested valuation of $700. If it were a Copenhagen mint mark (crown) then this might be the case. However, this has the Altona mint mark (orb), and is worth comfortably less than $50 IMO. I paid £1.57 for mine. It'll be interesting to see if this is corrected prior to the auction, and what it actually sells for.
  2. That's unfortunate. Someone paid a lot of money for it. http://londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=147&searchlot=2922&searchtype=2
  3. Following on from the is it / isn't it debate on the ebay's worst offerings thread, and using the above for comparison, is the top example here an open 3?
  4. Any help?
  5. That's the hard bit to overcome, but otherwise you're burglin'.
  6. Think you'd have to know where it was buried to the inch. How about knocking on the door and offering them half if you tell them what & where it is?
  7. Probably time to start handing them back if you get them as change in a shop.
  8. As I understand it it's not about the ice cube melting but the thermal conductivity of the metal. So when you hold the coin by the edges and put the ice cube in the middle you should feel the edges become cold almost immediately if it's silver.
  9. I think you'll get so many different specifications because it's been minted for so long, in so many different places, that there will be variations. The weight should be pretty consistent though. Have you checked to see if yours is silver?
  10. Think this is just when someone bids, but not high enough to take the lead. They bid a bit more, still not enough. A bit more, etc.
  11. Post good pictures (including the edge) here and you might get your answer.
  12. You've been watching it for 6 years?
  13. Do you know if the trials were also minted in Paris David? I had made that assumption but don't know if it's correct.
  14. There's no mintage listed in Krause so I don't know. I wouldn't have thought it would be particularly high though, so I'm a bit surprised by the extent of the die cracks.
  15. Interestingly, the picture in my edition of Krause shows the same die cracks.
  16. Are you quite sure you have a 1964 silver three pence?
  17. Ta very much.
  18. Couple of nice trial strikes.
  19. Evening all, A long shot I guess but would anyone have a copy of the Spink auction catalogue number 88 from 1991 please? I'm after more information on part two of the RJ Ford Collection. Cheers, Jon
  20. Thanks John. Pete kindly tipped me off when he spotted it. It's the one sold at LCA auction 158 lot 2351.
  21. How about a pic to compare then eh?
  22. Quite. Just a missing serif after all. It did look nice, if I remember correctly the one you mean. I take it it went too high? Much of what I was interested in sailed away into the "much too expensive".
  23. Was that the regular or inverted 1? I had my eye on those, amongst many other things. Most of the lots I had my eye on went far too high for me but I picked up a couple.
