  1. you are insatiable .....
  2. well said Rob I tried to buy some lots of my interest but nothing I wanted to add some coins published on the Stewartby's book after the irish pennies that I won last June ... maybe next time I will be luckier ...
  3. curious find Chris ...the scratches looks quite recent being not toned but maybe is the light ..
  4. Repubblica Genovese ( Genoese republic ) Genova ( Genoa mint ) 10 Soldi 1814
  5. corious that years with a mintage of 1200/2000 pieces have the same value of others with a mintage of 400000/500000. I think at auctions the hammer prices are a little bit different
  6. I'd go for a third way .... flans were weight also before the striking process , it was easier to correct before than after ...... about the lines to deface the king's portrait I t think that an anti-royalist would do lines more evident and deeper .... I think this is a similar case to some italians coins where lines were produced during the striking process by the machine ... you can see that the lines have all the same orientation and that some are also present on the below part of the legend ( so not made to delate the king's portrait ) examples
  7. Thanks Sword for these beautiful images ! I've never visited the exhibition in the tower of London .... next time .... this summer I visited the Bank of England museum in London , very interesting and rich of coins ....
  8. Nice coins , congrats !! You should improve your skills as photographer
  9. you're welcome about the first penny initially it looked me a Stephen one but now I am almost sure that it is another Henry II , probably bust A ... for the mint and monneyer I've no idea maybe if you can post a new image I can try to help you .... for the cut halfpenny I am sorry but with this photos I can't see anything
  10. Hi Jon and welcome !! Nice finds ! I am sorry but at the moment I can give you informations only about the second penny because looking at the photos trough my smartphone I have some problems with the others .... I think the second may be a Henry II penny bust C ( 1162-1167 ca. ) ... on the reverse I read I:ON:LV ..so London mint , the I is the last letter of the monneyer's name and considering all the monneyers who struck coins in London during Henry's kingdom there are 3 possibilities : Geffrei , Godefrei or Hunfrei ..maybe with the coin in your hands you can read some others letters Matteo p.s I think that just this coin is worth al least 100£ , it is in a good conservation for the type ...
  11. Hi all!! I was looking for some edwardian sterlings on the web when I found it , any comments ? The N of loN looks particular I have never seen one like this .. A contemporany imitation of an Edward II penny ? http://www.ebay.it/ulk/itm/272361250320
  12. look at the link I put in my second message Paulus
  13. as you can see http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Europian-Medieval-Poland-1622-Sigismund-III-1-24-Thaler-Silver-Coin-/322210797244?fromMakeTrack=true
  14. Hi !! well first of all ... auction is not still ended , so everything can happen ! after this thing ... well consider that medieval doesn't mean expensive , there are a lot of coins struck long time ago that can be bought for a couple of £ ....this is a very common coin struck in Poland or Hungary , if I am not wrong , and so there are also few collectors interested in.
  15. These are coins that I'd buy only with an important provenance ... You will pay it a little more but you sure of its quality
  16. Why don't you try with hammered coinage ? .. You will always find cheap coins that you haven't got ... And it is and incredible source to study european history ...
  17. you could use the hammer prices at auctions , the result would be more detailed
  18. it looks a medal ...can you post also an image of the reverse ?
  19. I think they aren't the same coin ... You can understand it quite clearly looking at the legend where there is MAG ...
  20. slab a coin as the edward III leopard or double florin should be a crime .... one of the most historical coins of the european medieval coinage ....
  21. an example : the first is a replica of a medieval coin struck in Milan , is was produced and distributed by an insurance company to all his clients , while the second is a genuine coin ... as you can see they looks very similar ...
  22. I don't think it was produced to be sell as genuine .... too different ... moreover I think these copies were probably given as gadgets with some commercial products .... for example here in Italy a lot similar copies were given with chocolate , biscuits , newspapers etc during the 70/80's
  23. Hi and welcome depends on coins you have , some types have a higher value if certificated while others not…. can you post some images ?
  24. weight is ok ? It's the first things that you have to see ..
