  1. in my opinion 271£ for the coin above is in proportion more expensive than the first coin of this discussion ... that I don't think is too bad this one for example was sold by Spink in September 2014 for 450 + rights
  2. In my modest opinion ,it's a normal Ed III treaty-period penny Type B1, according to Stewartby's book.
  3. Thanks .. It's quite funny that here in Italy we don't usually use that term .
  4. Just a normal roman N for me , although the image is not very clear. I would like to know why it is used the term Lombardic to identify that type of N
  5. I personally , would go for the father. Look at the crown and the letter E in particular .
  6. yes , also the portrait is quite different
  7. It's doesn't seem an english emission , I'd go for a contemporary continental penny
  8. Hi nice lot Let's start with a first part I'd say n° 1 : Ed I, Durham class 4c n° 2 : Ed I, Newcastle class 10ab n° 3 : Ed I, Canterbury class 3g - egg-waisted S n° 4 : Ed I, Lincoln maybe class 3g or 3cd I'm not sure... for others ? n° 5 : Ed I, London I'd say always 3 cd.
  9. Amazing can we see all ?
  10. Perfect ! Thanks a lot
  11. Hi all A member of the italian forum www.lamoneta.it asked a correct id. of this penny that he found in a lot of coins . We don't know well these coins , I'd go for a 7+ G but I am not sure, what do you think ? Thanks in advance
  12. Don't worry It is a scarcer type of Edward III halpenny class XVIb. In his book Lord Stewartby records two variants for the legends : Ewardus and Edwadus
  13. It looks a roman provincial coin , probably a tetradracma from the mint of Alessandria (Egypt) ... from this images I can't say more
  14. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1573.html
  15. books are the best investing for a numismatist , I didn't know the Slevin's book... I personally think also that the Stewartby's work on english medieval coins is a great book.
  16. a scratch on the capsule ?
  17. Can I see also the other face ? I love this coinage
  18. Early Modern Period Burgundian Netherlands - Flanders Charles the Bold Double Patard https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=476&lot=3107
  19. I agree with Rob... look at also the edge looks quite different
  20. Yes , you're right. We could start posting just a series of tickets / envelopes and then we put it in order on a word page that will be avaible on the first post
  21. Congratulations Very nice penny, not easy to find it in a similar conservation. ! I really like the Edwardian sterlings especially when they come from old collections .. It would be interesting to create a new discussion about the old tickets
  22. Of course I did ...and I saw ( and still see ) a modern token ( not a coin ) with no value at all ... you can find these things on the stalls for tourists in Rome at 1 €.
  23. interesting question .. it is the genoese gateway ... there are many theories about it .. My preferite is that it is a symbolic rappresentation of the city of Genoa itself . The medieval name of the city was infact IANUA that in latin means door or gateway. Genoa at the time was probably the most important mediterranean commercial port and the majority of goods destined to the today North Italy , Swiss and South Germany passed through it, so it was a sort of geteway to the central Europe. This Construction can be found on the first and almost all the genoese coins struck from the 1139 to the 1638 , including also many of the coins struck in his colonies. The gateway became a sign of quality and for that reason it was maintened for a quite long period, but was reproduced on many coins of others country in slightly different ways as for example on the Crusaders states coins. Here some examples of genoese coins reproducing the gateway
  24. Cyprus Famagosta Genoese domination , probably during the St. George bank rule Mid. XV Century. Carzia
  25. it is not easy with the coins in your hands ... just looking at four images ( with also different light ) is quite impossible... I would say 2 4 3 1... The second coin in my opinion could be the last one due to the mintmark looks more deterioreted than others.. I personally, think that it's important to look at the letter A because in the later example the "hole" in the middle ( sorry, I don't know how to describe it ) should be smaller ..
