I think that depends also on the type of coins that you have to photograph .. generally speaking scanner tends to flat the highest details of the coin and have some problems when the coins are very small and/or very dark. Also with gold coins I got bad results.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it .. It reminds me a series of fake Italian coins

I have already read the recently published Medieval European Coinage vol. 8 and in fact, the problems cited above are quite evident as well as for all books of this series.

this is not a numismatic book but in any case, it contains several images and references to coins. I am reading it right now and I find it extremely well done despite the language is not the easiest for me.

The style looks quite regular to me, even if images are not perfect. From Lord Stewartby's excellent book "English Coins" at page 216 refering to pre-treaty group E : " the mis-spellings GHLORIA or GAHLORI on the quarters are less obviously explicable". So your coin could be a small variety of the coins cited above

hi all, This morning I was checking the mintage of some proof sets produced by the RM during the last century and I noted that for the 1966 Tanzanian proof set the mintage reported on Krause and all the other references is 5500 pieces of each coin in the set, however reading the Royal Mint annual report for this year it seems that the mintage is of only 500. So, I would like to ask you if you know if those coins have been minted also in the following years with the same date or anything else... Looking on eBay I found several items which make me quite dubious about the number reported by the mint.

When I wrote books and papers, to be honest, I was not thinking about catalogues but more one modern texts like English Coins by Stewartby, the volumes on the mint of Bury written by Robin Eaglen or the J.J. North's collection for examples and the articles that can be found on the publications like Numismatic Chronicle. In some cases, you can also discover the provenance but in others not...

There is also the provenance from hoard which from my point of view is probably more appealing than a coin owned by "famous collector" because it is a guarantee of authenticity and you can track the history of the coins. Of course, when there are coins with both provenances it is reasonable to consider a good premium depending on the type of the coin. Since English coins are not my primary collection I always try to buy coins with provenance. I would like instead to ask you: how much extra would you pay for coins published on books or papers?
