  1. Why is the lighthouse on the left twice as wide at the top? the mouths are different the one on the right her lips curl downward?
  2. Hi good people. Here are two farthings the dark one is the beaded border farthing but supposedly so is the light one on the left but it doesn't have that same rock formation to the left of the lighthouse and the broach is lower set is it the mule? some of the teeth resemble teeth but most look like beaded dots. Kind of confusing?
  3. I went to the bank the other day and just for fits and giggles i changed up £50 in £1 coins took them home and had a butchers at them. Oh my it must be the worse coin ever struck (for errors or design faults) half of the exhibited unusual flaws like extra metal which seems to have plagued all the decimal coins post 2000 . missing designs . the most common were the difference in where the bottom of the truncation meets the hologram box and at the tip of the tiara where it intersects the brass outer rim
  4. 1 million were struck at the festival apparently . Seems an awful lot to me ?
  5. Ah yes you have all four but what I meant was there are no references in books to confirm they exist apart from the asterix in Davies that means unconfirmed. So I guess it is the same as many unlisted varieties they are out there it is just the book publishers don't seem to want to recognise them or owners are keeping the info close to their chest
  6. I am surprised to find a highly skilled team of "experts" looking for victims in a forum . Reading between the lines you must all be very wealthy . I would of thought a TV campaign would of been more upfront. Unless it is what it is just another troll looking to exploit whomever they can. Try ebay you will be amongst many friends and competition is always a healthy thing of course as long as it is above board. Forgive me if I waste my money. I think you should tell that to the collectors who sell coins for $1000000+ . True to say bitcoin may well be the future but for now it is what it is a Bit of something that could be something or could be nothing. And by your appearance here I hardly think bitcoin is setting the world alight is it? Good luck though sounds like you need it Have a nice day
  7. I wonder if they are related https://www.ebay.com/itm/Great-Britain-Penny-1998-Badge-of-Henry-VII/362141993716
  8. yes thats the same reverse with 2 ID markers but only for the business strike
  9. Im looking at it. only mentions the business strike nothing about the proof?
  10. I think it is a case of the misinformation/rumour passed on and on. It is probably more likely the blue case was for the festival set struck at the festival and the black case was the set struck at the RM. The green box with the single crown being much scarcer than the burgundy had to be the one struck at the festival and the burgundy issue was from the RM. It makes so much more sense.
  11. where is the info for that nick?
  12. According to Davies * given for value as in not seen . I looked on Michael Gouby's site and 1B on the proof not listed there either
  13. That's the elder cross gender sister Vicgeorgia
  14. LOL actually his comment probably did him more harm than good unless he is misinformed and thinks the coins picked up at the exhibition were all VIP proofs because of the occasion? That is one violent draw it has been sitting in? Perhaps a few earthquakes were involved
  15. Yes I forgot that part about the I and @ Nick thanks for the extra ID info
  16. This coin is a normal 1951 and If it was a VIP proof I would want more than a green box and a standard docket that you can buy anywhere. Be interesting over the next few days what this realises. I'll have to dig my greenies out ( sounded different in my head lol). But alas I couldn't do that just not made that way. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1951-VIP-Proof-George-VI-British-Crown-Festival-of-Britain-Boxed/352215027958
  17. I made a slight error in the original post it was the D of IND to gap which is reverse B . Which I am happy to say finally appeared . It was interesting to read that Michael Gouby out of 100 1937 two shillings He had seen 10 reverse B's but not better than fine /F+
  18. Wow very nice. Yeah agreed the really rare issues will always surpass book values. Purely the fact they are so rare and demand outweighs supply for all collectors and I would imagine 98% do not have that variety in their collection. As was the case when we saw record figures for the 1863 Narrow 3 and the 1863 die number 5. I wonder what it would sell for today if it came up at auction?
  19. Well we know there are normal struck 1951 Festival proof coins which are all the ones in Green/burgundy/Blue cases except for the blue box issue which were specifically issued at the festival itself. As for the other two colours perhaps one was for UK and one for overseas?. We have plain edge proof which was struck in error on unedged blanks . I guess they could of been in any of the colour cases? Then there is the VIP proofs with frosted designs (not totally true) VIP proofs also appear with a regular proof finish with a cameo subject against a mirrored field. Also there is a Matt proof version. It just seems strange to me whenever you see these come up at auction there is no mention of "in box of issue with C.O.A" So how do they distinguish Between an early struck standard proof and a VIP proof. Especially against the VIP proof that doesn't have a frosted finish? I left off the two obvious coins as the frosted one we know what that looks like and the matt proof would be just as easily identifiable here are 3 versions of the standard issue versus a non frosted VIP proof. If we were to send in the VIP proof raw would they even recognise it as one?
  20. Afternoon all. Can you tell me. I ask only because It doesn't really match either description unless the pic in spinks is approximate. 1683 Halfcrown it looks more like the third bust but the date doesn't correspond to that bust So it is either 2nd or 4th bust . I am thinking logically it must be 4th bust but the hair along the edge looks different and the II is further from the head as on bust 3. Anyone can tell me which it is? and is it worth £320? thank you Sorry skipped a page was looking at the bloody shillings lol. But value wise still stands
  21. Hi poly you have to refresh the page if the pic was too big the first time. The page doesn't update itself and thinks you're still trying to post the bigger picture
  22. MS66 really. ??? What am I missing. I know it was a problem year for strikes but it don't look that good. The ear tip is flat and so is the lions nose https://www.ebay.com/itm/GR-BRITAIN-George-V-1917-AR-Sixpence-PCGS-MS66-SCBC-4014-Key-date/172990281429
  23. Wow the difference in prices on ebay.com to our uk version as in the coins we don't see and generally overall is like chalk and cheese. Surely common sense would suggest a slabbed coin price would be market value + W/E it cost to slab the coin and in some cases just market value. How do they think they will sell anything when they price x2 x3 x4 book prices? World full of muppets. Surely they don't think because it says NGC or PCGS that adds some extraordinary intrinsic value to a coin? All that means is you paid someone to verify what you already knew which seems bloody daft on the face of it. I think every penny I looked at and bearing in mind these are MS64RB not MS64RD £400-£900 none are rare. Also why do they affix RB to our coins when it's as obvious as the nose on their face the coin is red full luster. Is it something to do with they have copper we have bronze? I would imagine bronze in any condition the same as copper would be a darker tone? To me it doesn't do justice to many of the coins. There are many shades of red but when you start classifying coins in the RB state that tells me that the coin is on it's way to becoming brown. But you see the coin and there isn't a trace of brown on the coin. What gives?
  24. Is the proof box set issue not George and the Dragon as well? or do you mean on the sleeve cover on top of the box? Must be the green one that has a lid? my burgundy ones are all slide outs
