  1. I havent got an 1849 peter
  2. Some nice pennies and that one catherine with the colon much scarcer in that grade as you will be aware. I have a nice 1841 no colon its the one as my avatar pretty much full lustre graded CGS 85.
  3. Thank you Bernie .
  4. Only buying copper/bronze a lot have an almost pink colour due to spending to long in something acidic such as vinegar. The small scratches is a giveaway along with the fields being different to the devices such as lettering etc.
  5. Surely someone must know. Coins listed in auctions by Spink , dnw , lca, baldwins and the workman sale all give provenance as ex-Peake. Pete.
  6. Yes i am curious aswell ?. Welcome to the forum i assume you will post a picture.
  7. Shame that someone is paying for something that is garbage.
  8. Good find Brian. I bought one the other week and paid about £40 although had some lustre and was a decent coin. Was in the james workman sale but went unsold . Well spotted .
  9. Brian if it turns out to be wrong as the top part of the three looked...... throw it in the bin. Maybe bite the bullet and just buy one for £80 ish,i believe they are becoming more common like the 1863 open penny and other documented varieties The chances of buying one on ebay unrecognised is slim as people are always looking. Keep searching and more importantly enjoy it but remember if the coin is referenced others are looking aswell. I have bought numerous copper pennies looking at the variety that were garbage but always learning and not cost me much to find out. Pete.
  10. Yes i agree on the top curve i would of taken a chance for £2.00 as Brian did and would of gambled ,it wasnt on ebay and for that money can always throw it away. Anyway Brian can you please put the pictures up of the blown up date and hope your lucky. Pete.
  11. No expert and just having a guy taking pictures of some of mine in slabs and raw again today. He altered the background of the obv and rev so they were on one picture combined without any difference in background colour. As an example your pictures of A and E of your posts.
  12. Must of posted the same time
  13. Only ask as some looked chopped and some just normal backgrounds with different lighting. Just something i am learning and wondered if they were the same batch why they didnt do them all the same ?.
  14. Not been about Paul for a few days ,but having sent coins to CGS myself were these part of the same batch ?.
  15. Is it being sold as that if not and cheap brian worth a gamble.
  16. Although needs a better picture the top curve of the three tends to be more flat but the bottom and the centre looks good.
  17. From that picture brian would say yes.
  18. I notice coins listed as ex- M.Peake. Being relatively knew to collecting pennies wondered if anyone has any information about him or his collection or weather he was a dealer. I ask as he obviously had a good collection as otherwise dont feel the provenance would of been mentioned. Pete.
  19. Looks nice Matt hat off and dont need to look for another. The 1897 has been listed before a couple of times and obviously not worth that.
  20. If its because you have no cash............join the club
  21. Well done Brian and glad your still enjoying collecting and the 1915 recessed were good finds. As you know i am not really into errors but sure someone will help you. I would call it "Throw it in the bin" . Be lucky. Pete.
  22. Next week i think Gary thats only a few.
  23. Swanny you paid the money for an independent opinion. I know its not what you wanted to here as its happened to me and we dont want to find out a coin is rejected or lower grade than we hoped. I suggest you phone them ,speak to a grader ,let them explain why it was rejected and move on. They will explain there opinion and remember they are not there to just tell you what you want to here just there opinion ,that you paid for. If you were not happy with the service you have a choice weather to send any in the future. Pete.
  24. I wish Dave been in the UK three month
  25. You will probably be right Rob and not finding faults the site allows me to learn. I would just like more people to post thats all as i enjoy learning ,even about the hammered things I have found 10 people who have made a post in the last 24 hours and does not seem many . Everyone to there own and up to them.
