I've just had a very positive experience on eBay, so would like to share this lovely coin by way of a thank you to the seller! As I understand it, he's a serious collector who is presently selling up, but meaning to return to the hobby in better days! I bought that Lincoln Penny and a lovely little farthing from him. Now that's interesting, VS, as I see FDC as an uncirculated example of a coin in a near-pristine condition. To be more precise a coin that has miraculously escaped the digs and dings of the chute!

I need a decent W3 Crown too so leave off please (seriously though if you let me know which lot number you may be bidding on (if any) I will steer clear) haven't had a chance to browse, yet, and no not for me! A nice W3 crown around the £800 mark is a little bit illusive. It's a price range where you can buy average or great, depending on the day, so I'm being patient on his behalf! H5 is no better or easier a find between HG and Penny!

I also think a full refund is more than reasonable, again IMHO!

Hi Joseph! If a novice doesn't know his way around the mules (or otherwise) of this series, then he really shouldn't be buying them in the first place! It's one thing to intentionally deceive with a bit of spit and polish, or a shoddy photo, but altogether a different thing for someone to believe they have a variety and call it such. It is then for the buyer to do his homework and decide for himself. Probably not the playground of the novice...IMHO!

I think the term remains in existence because of books like Chris' and Spink's, and I personally don't mind the term at all as, for me, it represents what a coin would look like if it were 'technically' uncirculated. It is quite simply a parameter that rates above EF, that's been sub-divided by GEF and aUNC! No problems on my front! Still better than a number that replaces in some part the eye-appeal of a coin, but doesn't actually give the grade! Namely, the number of a TPG offers a point with which to value a coin, whereas the traditional grading system is nothing other than a grade...you can decide on the eye-appeal and value for yourself! Believe it or not!

EF at least! It has that rubbing on the bust that looks misleading. If you compare that 'rubbing' to a bronze penny of G5, which commonly shows that kind of wear, you will realise the ballpark you're playing in! Buying?

They get through because the pyx is nothing to do with quality control at the time of manufacture. The pyx is a check that the output was in accordance with the standards laid down, performed after a given period of time.Isn't it all a bit pointless nowadays in the absence of bullion value?

Sadly, I haven't found anything that will remove rust spots without obliterating the coin! I even tried dipping a coin to death once...still no good! Sorry!

SLIPPERY! However, this is a most unusual example as there is a considerable incidence of reflectivity to both sides of the coin - this is difficult to illustrate on static images - If there were such a coin as an impaired proof issue for this date - WHICH THERE IS NOT - then you could be mistaken into thinking this was one such example - Has the coin perhaps been lightly polished at sometime in the past - Maybe, but it really does not seem to exhibit the expected hair-line scouring that you would expect to observe

The 1906 Penny was sold by "topcarp"....that is John Jerrums! Now, I have bought from Top carp2 myself (and I confess I didn't look at the seller), but that is a slippery sale if ever I saw one!

Nothing to detract for me, Paul, a nice well-balanced and pretty coin! Not my area but an obviously nice coin!
