    Me too!
  2. Anyone interested before it goes on eBay? Covers a lot of interesting 'high-science' stuff. Cleaning of Coins and Medals by G. Welter - Hans M. F. Schulman/New York 1970 ex. Library Stock. Serviceable copy £5 + post to wherever you are. Weight will be around 500g with packaging.
  3. As a chemist you've probably got access to some very accurate scales, can you get the weight of both coins? As PWA mentioned, the one coin looks bigger, is that an optical illusion? Is the reverse you show the exact match for the reverse of your's?
  4. My guess would be it has been sat on a corrosive surface? I wouldn't say it is something of numismatic interest myself? Thanks for finding us, though, it's always interesting when anomalies turn up! Do wait for other views on here, as it's never as simple as it looks, and I'm using an iPhone on GPRS to view!

Another problem, I guess, is whilst you want dialogue on certain posts, you don't want to open the floodgates to single posters, which might effectively swamp the numismatically interesting discussions. Hmmmmm!

I suppose the perfect venue in that case would be an integrated FBpage and Forum, where both parties could communicate on the same platform! Does such a thing exist? Will a piece of software be developed that can communicate between the two? Auctiva somehow manages to interact with the eBay machine, so I guess it might be possible one day? The forum that does that first will be king!
  7. Got to love his belief in this!
  8. There is an excellent series of publications called "Collectors Coins" by the publisher "Rotographic" that give the RM prices for the various sets. Sounds interesting! Have you thought of checking there, Chris? ?
  9. There are some great acid images somewhere on this forum for comparison. They all show the increased erosion upon the stressed metal around the devices, as is mentioned above.
  10. And to add...very little margin at all at that end of the grade spectrum, maybe 2.75-2.8g?
  11. Nothing about it that 'looks' wrong to me! I'd definitely recheck that weight on some proper scales, though.
  12. Yes, you get a much better sense of the tonal quality in the images taken with the E2 penny! I think it's come up really well!
  13. Given they can't even give a reign, where did they pluck that figure from! Hopeful? Gotta love eBay! 252028974667

  15. Sorry, Nuts, not my area, but hopefully someone will know?
  16. Tee Hee...never a dull moment on here! Where you been, Rooney?
  17. We must have posted at the same time...will have a proper look at this later!

  19. Learning new things about it all is what keeps us going on here, we're learning every day! All the very best to you, Stuart
  20. I have an other lot of those 1820 sovereigns , but i may hold on to them for abitDealer paid a very good price for them , received some good advise from a few on here , but when it comes to selling i think il look into properly as i did with 3 i sold , good job i didnt jump straight in and sell to those who made offers , id have been a good 400 light In some respects your statement is not fair, as we all had some poor pictures to work from, some which were just taken from the net! £400 over three coins is not a lot, especially if the person you sold them to had the privilege of seeing them in hand? This is the old problem of trying to make a financial judgement on images alone! You have to cover yourself by a small margin to allow for the details you can't see in an image, that could easily drag the resale value down by £600...what would you do if you were speculating on a grainy picture of a replacement car, which was due an MOT? Glad you got a result though!
  21. Spot on! My instinct is you shouldn't worry, there's nothing about it that jumps out! And with that weight, we'd all be in trouble if that's a copy!
  22. Nice one! Hope you got something out of coming on here? Don't forget us the next time something nice comes your way!
  23. It's also got that spurred edge on the reverse from 12-4 O'Clock, I always like to see that pressing through my coin flips!
