  1. Thats great news thanks Accumulator. Times like these it pays to have the right reference materiel. You know, I nearly never set it aside.
  2. I was looking through quite a few pennies for a friend at work and pulling out KN, H mintmarks as well as the scarcer dates, although most are only in fine condition and I came across this 1921 penny Has anyone seen another like it? It looks to be a chip or a die cud on the 2. Although not as exciting as an over date or a letter struck over another one, I thought it was interesting.
  3. Welcome to the forums Garry and happy collecting
  4. 1644 Charles I Oxford unite
  5. I don't know about the best but out of the coins and medals I have owned in the past I like these portraits: 1928, Von Hindenburg GIII Gilt proof farthing
  6. Hi John, It is a pain switching broadband when moving house and sorry to hear about your my wife and wee boy having health problems. I hope they are well. Its nice to see you back.
  7. Great coin Jeff. I have an interest in US coins as well, so I am a member of both the BNS and ANA. I believe what Peter said "It is of no surprise that US interest was strong at the start of the 20C as they had little more than 100 years of their own coinage." Does have a lot of truth to it. Also a lot of the US coins were based on UK and French designs so you could see the appeal of British coins to the US collector. If you look at the US designs especially from the late 18th and early 19th century they are quite basic compared to what European mints were producing, but perhaps that is why I quite like them. The only down side is the price of nice condition early US coins makes them hard to collect for most including myself. This is one of the reasons why I tended to focus more on Colonial US coins in the past.
  8. Please don't finger your coins (no its not a title for a blue movie ) or if you really must, wear gloves at least: http://www.ebay.com/sch/numinerva/m.html?_trkparms=65%253A1%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1&rt=nc&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=1
  9. 18rgp stands for 18 carat rolled gold plated. If the gold isn't real the chances are the diamonds aren't either. As for the coin. It doesn't look like a standard Victoria bust on a coin but clearer pictures would help.
  10. As British coins go, I have seen two genuine QEII shillings struck by two reverse die's. Such coins would be considered a trial coin but they are rare. I have seen and own many fake or magician coins. I did once own a Thai Baht struck with 2 obv. dies and a Euro one cent trial struck with two obverse dies.
  11. I agree, it could be the saturation or the colour of your pictures but it looks too white, almost like it has been dipped too many times.
  12. Do you mean these types of trial coins?: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROYAL-MINT-TRIAL-DIE-STRIKE-TOKEN-1957-BRITANNIA-MONETA-/360385257905?pt=UK_Coins_Tokens_RL&hash=item53e8a2a1b1
  13. Frankenstein to checkout no 9 This must be the new electric shock toning? http://cgi.ebay.com/Rainbow-Toned-Unc-1972-D-Eisenhower-Dollar-/130545550174?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1e651f035e
  14. I won £161,000,000 on the lottery the other night. Okay just dreaming. Not a lot my end Chris but nice to see you on the forum. Is the house nearly finished?
  15. Welcome to the forums James
  16. Sounds like the Spam botter that bot bammed of my forum as well. He's a busy bot.
  17. I'm pretty sure those coins haven't been graded by CGS. Slabbed but not graded. NGC and PCGS will slab any coin but NGC will write XF details, AU details etc. PCGS will just say GENUINE and give a code ie 98 which stands for cleaned on their coding scale. I doubt the seller will get back to you. Perhaps they aren't showing the slab label because it would give the game away.
  18. I don't know but there must be a big mark up for someone along the way. What we pay for a couple of slices of meat in the supermarket compared to what farmers get for a whole animal seems ridiculous.
  19. but I'd never trust the opinion of someone who's just bought the item! No-one wants to admit any failing in their judgement or purchase... Never a truer word spoken. Yet we've all done it at some point.

  21. Very nice collection Rasiel and welcome to the forum.
  22. I know the prices won't be spot on but as a guide I'll use it for some non UK coins.
  23. To be honest Barca deserved to win and played Man U off the park. Sloppy defending and passing by Man U. Barca had by far the most shots at goal.
  24. Great idea, although I believe the Edinburgh Numismatic Society is no longer active. I phoned Nick Holmes (ex. coin curator at the museum and head of the society) to ask if I could join but unfortunately he said due to lack of people joining and members passing away, it kind of dwindled away and they stopped it.
  25. Unfortunately only worth silver value in that condition, however a coin with a lot of character. Its definitely seen a lot of use and handling. Probably been kept as a pocket piece by someone, perhaps even your grandfather.
