Rarest Silver Proof issued by the Royal Mint?
azda replied to youliveyoulean's topic in Decimal Coins
That's because there are 2 of the same year. 1 REV proof and 1 normal proof. The REV proof is the one with the 500 mintage and could also be a private issue as the RM mint coins for other parties or it could be a test strike of another coin coming into production next year. They were released in a 2 coin set, the normal Britannia and the REV proof -
He usually does

I'm still perplexed how the Jon Blyth offering of a 1912H penny even made MS65 with the gouges on it, if they mark down for mint wipes then surely gouges should also apply. Sold for £313 if anyone is interested

Rarest Silver Proof issued by the Royal Mint?
azda replied to youliveyoulean's topic in Decimal Coins
I'm sure they are on the mint website, maybe just not every single one though -
I know the buyer of this one, he does some youtube videos on his purchases, watched him unwrap it and the colour was nowhere near what was pictured. He's tweaking his pictures obviously because Americans love colour and thinks it will enhance the price. I'm surprised no one has left him a neutral or negative for the pictures not being like the coin in hand.......
-
It certainly does appear to be a different coin. I was trying to focus on a point on the coin that could be identified as the same or not and found a rim nick by the dragons paw at around 4 o'clock which doesn't appear on the PCGS picture yet is on the sellers. Check the images
-
Exactly what I said Bob, there is 4 MS65 RB and 1 MS65 RD, he's saying his RD is superior, so I asked him since when did people start buying letter deaignated slabs in stead of the number, so I was asked to check the PCGS website for superiority letters and RD means 95% min red and RB 5-95% red, so in theory all 5 MS grades can be the same as there is no percentage of colour rating on the slabs.
-
A little misleading from this eBay seller IMO, just because it says RD on the slab doesn't make it the finest known 1912H as there is 4 others in the same grade with RB on.....

This guy is a total bellend. I also corrected him on a few things plus he was selling coins that had been bought through LCs, which he in turn bought from someone else on ebay and doubled the price he paid. After a while he became quite rude, even telling me that his "dealer friend" told him the 1862 die letter A halfpenny was only worth 1k I blocked him at that point but previously he'd been asking for help ID-ing coins. I think i added a couple of his listings in the ebay section of the forum

Plus the fact i learnt that Potosi mint was still minting cobs in 1760, didn't know that until today

Soapy will be of a smooth appearance, this doesn't come with wear, it's difficult to give an exact detail, but maybe you can take a picture of the Real i'm speaking about and upload it separately
-
The weights also seem to fluctuate, check here the description, this cob is only 17g http://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotviewer.php?LotID=2409403&AucID=2312&Lot=601&Val=243138597942b7ccb983528ad9a5cdbe

Quite the Spanish theme going on, but the middle row middle and right is a 4 or 8 reales, can't quite make out the denomination, but it seems quite soapy to me which is an indicator of being fake, , by soapy i mean not very well struck, terminology for fakes, see the picture i uploaded of an 8 reales of 1760 and check against what you have, it just doesn't seems sharp
-
The OP coin looks more like this http://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotviewer.php?LotID=2524491&AucID=2445&Lot=1971&Val=22f42422c5ef95820b868ae83738a4e1
-
That would be the strangest piece of 8 i've ever seen, 1760 would be a pillar dollar which look like the attached. The OP coin is a much earlier Spanish coin called a cob i believe
