Edge on the 1804 BoE dollar?
azda replied to seuk's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Here is my coin Seuk, you can see the undertype on both OBV and REV of this, on the OBV over REX and REV from the date going clockwise. Unfortunately i can't give anymore details on the rim as it's not to hand plus it's in a slab. Does an undertype mean its kosher? The Chinese can replicate anything these days -
You don't arrange return post, PCGS does. PCGS will have a stand at certain coin fair in which they will accept submissions from PCGS members, you don't need an appointment, you just go along with you coins. Attached is a list from their website of which shows they are attending, London is third on the list and are accepting submissions there

I think the bad press they get is actually because of the politicians and by the politicians. So much money gets wasted by t***s who have no backgrounds in medicine and are simply there to control budgets and create jobs where those jobs and titles weren't required 20-30 years ago, the money these people are earning could be better spent on the NHS itself. Anyway, hope all is well Pete......

You can always phone them, they speak English. If you go onto the fedex website you can give all your details in there and they will pick your packet up, PCGS will automatically send your coins back with the carrier you sent them with, i'm not sure who else they'll accept as a carrier from the UK, but they won't accept all packages from all carriers. You can also check out the show schedules that they'll be attending, you can always hand your coins over at the shows or even pick them up. I'm going to time a submission so i can pick them back up at the Munich coin fair in March, it does save postage 1 way

Books on German coins - Recommendations please
azda replied to Nonmortuus's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
I'd also recommend the Kurt Jaeger book, starts at 1871 and also has provincial mints in there but only goes up to the 1990s as far as i can see. Maybe the updated version goes more in depth, but this is more focused on the Kaiserreich (Gold-Silver) Weimar Republic, 3rd Reich and Bundesrepublik until the 90s./ -
In some cases it's true the the mints add more than they should, but also coin dealers do the same when they're selling you a coin, there's absolutely no difference because they are all dealers at the end of the day , one is modern the other not, but modern can be bought at near spot price unless of course you are the South African mint who have this year started to sell silver Krugerrands at stupid prices, so far i've seen 50 euros plus for a 1 million mintage, i guess they are trying to be exclusive, but with a mintage like that it's never going to happen, funnily enough they recalled the coins due to quality problems, the RM should take note

I think he may regret putting it up there as well, even the Americans think his UNC grade is crazy. Just noticed that this was my 10,000th post, how times flies. I an now a legend in my own underwear, time to slip on my cape with the BIG S on it (and slippers)

Having a crystal ball is wonderful in hindsight, who would have thought that in 1989 the sovereign that cost £195 now sets you back £800. Your frosted proof might do the same IN 10 YEARS, but then again, it might not, so it's your choice of what to get rid of

Strange why he takes a picture of his computer and hand, the 1860/59 shows absolutely nothing of the overdate http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victoria-1869-Penny-Really-Nice-Very-Fine-Reverse-Ext-Fin-/252700677914?hash=item3ad622571a:g:hAsAAOSwLs5XJ7Lm

An interesting scenario, the question is, what do you want to keep? Gold should most definitely be kept for rainy days, unfortunately we don't know what it is exactly that you have in your collection or how big and how well preserved it is, so only you can answer your question right now

Largest coin ever in circulation?
azda replied to Descartes's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
So far the heaviest, wouldn't like a pocket full of those though, they must have had to carry them round on horse and cart -

Hi Mindle777, don't take anything personally, it's like an initiation test on here sometimes, we can get a little nippy, the tougher ones stay or those with longer term aspirations, we get ebay queries here all the time, you should check the "free for all" section for some of the ebay laughs at prices and grades. Anyway, welcome to the forum, hopefully we can continue to help and you'll enjoy learning about the coins you're selling. P.s, i used to live in Roath in Cardiff

More the message. He told me he had no clue who CGS were, don't understand him even using them as a reference if that's the case

You could start with what the coin is and why it's important, important to you? or historically important? Just while you try and fix the url

Kew gardens going up in value?
azda replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes, stupid people buying them at artificially inflated prices. Have they sold at that price or for sale at that price because that is 2 different entities altogether. A fool and his money are soon parted........- 13 replies

I have asked emailed for the UIN number on the slab so it can be checked on the database (wonder if i'll get a reply)
-
I'm not sure the coin would hurt the business anymore than they already had done to themselves last year, plus they read these boards anyway, so should see the link saying that, if you describe a coin in a slab on the .com site i'm sure you have to list the slab number

You might be right at 1.02kg, but ugly as hell and with more excess material than you could shake a stick at -
Welcome to the forum, google is your friend. I assume your coin looks exactly the same? A 600k mintage isn't that rare when you compare for instance the silver Mexican Libertabds 2oz which 2009 had the highest BU mintage of only 46,000
