1. The problem is that any seller who wants a reasonable return has to overprice in order to recoup the ebay charges. When you are losing 15-20% in fees, it has to be recovered by charging more. If sellers still had the option to bypass Paypal, it would be possible to reduce the charges and so lower prices to the buyer. Many of my sales and purchases on eBay have ended up outside of eBay and Paypal, even with my first transaction with a buyer or seller Once a negotiation starts, it becomes immediately obvious that it would be mutually beneficial to cut eBay and PayPal out of the equation (once you have established some trust!). EBay hate it of course, but there are ways and means that are not complicated, and the best thing is it builds you an invaluable network of trusted contacts for repeat business! So I think you may want to experiment with the Bay Rob, see what you think! I used to. I stopped when they made accepting Paypal obligatory. Having previously had a fallout with them which ended up at the ombudsman and me a few hundred pounds richer, it was a decision that I was never going to rescind. eBay's policy of buyer good, seller bad is hardly welcoming, and to ensure you get a fair return, you need to start above £1 which means people ignore the listing. On balance, the hassle of listing for a week or ten days, but not selling because you aren't offering the item on a 99% discount is unattractive. I also find the whole experience very 'seller beware' and slanted towards the buyer. What I am saying has worked well for me is the 'BIN or best offer' listings that quickly migrate to a negotiation and deal outside of eBay and Paypal, and future deals with satisfied/delighted buyers. This can happen on the first deal, and is very common I think! Obviously the buyer and seller don't get the fantastic insurance offered by a regular eBay purchase, but when dealing with proper collectors this has yet to prove to be a problem for me ... might be worth a go for a handful of your hard-to-shift coins? Yes, but then there are the arseholes who bid on coins without any Intention of paying for them as is the case with my 1708 halfcrown. rsskyline from Belfast, registered as a Business seller no less buying everything in sight but Fails to pay for the coin he bidded on. So a wasted week in waiting for payment/wondering if he's going to pay, no email from them, no Response to mine and so onwards to the dipute to wait yet another 4 days. This is the part of ebay that irks me, new ebayer failing to pay yet they let him continue, absolute joke
2. I totally agree Peck, but then do you know the difference between a Japanese and Chinese Name? It was only my thought based on the 3 different buyers having less than a 10 score Feeback on ebay and all relatively new, thats why i found it strange
3. I've recently sold 3 high grade coins that have been shipped of to Japan. I've never had a Problem with any of the Transactions but curious as to whats Happening. The first was an 1849 Florin, the 2nd was my 1845 crown, but it was'nt until the 3rd yesterday, my 1857 florin, that i started to wonder if These coins are'nt destined for China. As i said, i never had a Problem with any of the Transactions, all were new ebayers or with a FB score of less than 10. It was yesterdays sale that got me wondering because the buyer in the same month bought 2 1849 Florins, why would he buy 2 if he already had one? Am i being paranoid about the final Destination, although a slae is a sale etc, but would'nt want to see these coins flooding the British market as it's already a nightmare. I'll be keeping Images of these 3 coins for reference, i also have another high grade florin due to arrive and list shortly, so it will be interesting to see what happens with that. Any thoughts or similiar from other sellers out there?
4. Well this will complicate matters, but technically they should be sent back to the registered address which is canada. Send insured/tracked and make sure you get the Return postage to. Male sure that you give the seller a nice FB before resolution is made by eBay or else you won't be able to afterwards
5. Hmmmm tie me up and whip me with a bannana skin and call me cynic, but thats mightly cheap for all those
6. Can i ask what you paid for it? It actually does look a Little to good, Hence the reason i ask about price. I'm wondering if it was also bought on eBay from perhaps an American seller?
7. Take a read of this then lol................ http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/danish-teen-discovers-rare-viking-era-coins-article-1.1345983
8. I was going to call you fussy until i saw Clives reply I thought William I coins were generally rare anyway, or am i mistaken?
9. And that's sober
10.
The images have also been doctored to blur away the surface marks. Mind you, anything can happen after a good plow (whatever that might be).

It Appears to have gone
11. And equally can't spell - note "luster" for "lustre" Blimey, even at the quoted 'aUNC' his asking price is a tad on the high side! In some parts of the world -- that is the correct spelling Not in Dundee, it isn't Wanna bet
12. There's mugs Born everyday Peter, you can't hold their Hand forever.
13. His name rings a bell, but I can't place it? Looking at his feedback, there's a couple of serious coin buyers who've been happy with him stock, which looks pretty interesting generally! Could be worth emailing him! It might be a good sun, and you just might get lucky? aholds sells Gold normally and he has an advert in the CCGB book and is friendly with Chris Perkins. I had a run in with him once about an 1820 closed 2 in date Sov which he bought from me and took an Age to get to him due to him having a PO BOX, he told me i should kiss his ass if i did'nt want a negative etc, i told him exactly where the f**k to get off and he left me a neg anyway. Guy is a moron in my opinion
14. Ohhhhh FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats just ridiculous................Does he ever sell anything? Ebay are just keeping him as a member for the laughter value surely Apparently this 1951 Festival of Britain Crown is actually a 1937 Matt Proof Crown. Can These be reported due to the false descriptions, trade descriptions would have a field day with his shite http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5656486428
15. Well at least its described correctly, but why list it is the obvious question
16. Apparently a Proof also. All the shite you need from 1 auction
17. A cartwheel is round and therefor would'nt have an edge, i think you might be refering to the rims though. As Rob pointed out, it does has a lot of verdigris on the REV which kills copper/brinze and could eventually bore a hole in the coin if not treated. This does'nt add to its value. Coins with a lot of verdigris should be avoided
18. You only pay to much when a coin is shill bidded upon. Normally by those who make their listings private. Grade, i'd say VF or there abiuts What's shill bidding? Ahh VF would be about the rightish price then, cheers mate Shill bidding is when the seller has another identity and uses it to push the price of their coin

20. 390 quid does'nt Sound to bad
21. I do find it curious why an auction house would'nt list this seperately. However, it's their loss eventually and your gain, so as John says, what was the damage for the lot it came in?
22. I don't know how I've managed to get 'Price: highest first' by default in Chrome, but I'm quite glad that I have. That and 'newly listed' are the options I use most. BTW Stuart your PM box is full. He obviously talks to much
23. Cropping all the red from around the. coin also helps
