  1. This was a Topic here http://www.predecimal.com/forum/topic/8080-coin-dealer-murdered/ about 3 weeks ago
  2. If you start Wandering Then you'll eventually be all over the place with a collection that looks like a splat against a wall. Don't worry what you Might be missing on eBay and worry about what you actually want. I had a great conversation with a Guy today about my truro crown. He insisted it was in aF grade and offered £400 i fehlt lucky and priviledged but Pointed him towards John Stephenson who also has one in Fine (no Need to thank me John) Here's a wee snippet on the grading., but because he's the secretary of whatever, he knows more about grading. We shall just have to disagree I am afraid. I have been the auction secretary of the Derbyshire Numismatic Society for almost 20 years and see a lot of coins so I do know a little bit about grading. I know that it is a contentious issue but I do not wish to argue with you on the subject. Me, argue about grading???? The coin certainöy isn't aF my friend
  3. a***d clearly wants to win that one! That one is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! WHY on earth would someone, with over a day to go, revise his maximum bid TEN TIMES IN TWO MINUTES with no other bidding going on? It could be a tactic by the seller to encourage bidding or it could be a tactic by the bidder to discourage bidding, not an easy one to decide
  4. The seller of this lot generally buys silver bullion off ebay and then relists a few months later. I had a set of silver stamps from 1977 which was bullion in a box, i think they won at 20-30 quid. A few months later it was on their ebay as an auction and was sitting at around 50 odd quid, now whether shill bidding is involved i don't know, but they have bought These 2 sets http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231015885032?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D231015885032%26_rdc%3D1 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231015887909?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D231015887909%26_rdc%3D1 So will be interesting to see what they do with them, but the Price they got them for i think they'd make something on them anyway
  5. Here's another that has 9 high bids against it. Ends tonight at about 8pm. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111134446373?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D111134446373%26_rdc%3D1
  6. Is this a new purchase Rob, not your usual green Background, so it would either be new or one coming up for sale.
  7. You could have my mother-in-law for free, she's antique
  8. Just Hope your buyer does'nt go to the Pub, he's Never Drink again. I listed some of *name removed* shilled auctions last Year, it was a Lot of money, £5500 i think his shill bidder had pushed his Gold coins to, 30 mins after posting the thread Rob had taken a look and the ones i'd listed which were shilled had gone, thats why i know he reads These boards and is also. Member here, because i'd posted my thread in the members section
  9. *name removed* has overtaken Platt in the shilling game, which is not easy to do, but every Gold coin he lists is shilled. I'm fairly confident he also does the Same with the silver. He also reads these boards.
  10. Saying all that though, coin Sold on the 28th July and Sent to Canada within 3 days as FB was left in the 31st. Smells of bullshit to me now
  11. Jefstenbon i think his name was, a Canadian slab number buyer by the looks of it.
  12. Yeah, but if it was going too cheap, why wouldn't the seller just withdraw it from sale? An over-enthusiastic shiller would cost more in the long run. It would depend on how much time is left Peck. I think if there's 12hrs or less you cannot pull an auction
  13. I had 1 Guy last Year make about 12 bids one After the other. I basically cancelled his bids because i thought he was a piss taker. I emailed him and explained my reasoning for cancelling. He replied and was shocked, he explained that he did this quite often in order to put other bidders off bidding, his 12 bids were only £1 each time
  14. If you click on accumulators website in his signature there you'll find the 1922 reverse 1927
  15. I decided I needed a life. His basic problem is that if a proof is listed in Spink for a type, what he lists is a proof. So here we have a bog standard worn 1937 crown, but it must be a proof and fortunately for this imbecile, a Matt Proof is listed. ipso facto he has an extremely rare matt proof - coz it isn't shiny like the rest of them. Price it a bit higher than the regular proof and you arrive at the listing. Spink apparently has the complete list of coins, so only one 1806 proof halfpenny exists and Peck wasted 10 years of his life writing the book. He said he has been collecting/dealing for 54 years. The last 53 have been wasted. The last 53 wasted? I'd say the last 54 were
  16. Yes this guy has definately lost the plot, he even broke Rob.
  17. Me to, especially old auction catalogues, picked up a few Major sales ones.
  18. Funnily enough, my neighbour just upstairs from me is great friends with the owner apparently, he collects bank notes, so his great friend obviously didn't offend him by offering the overpriced shite
  19. If i Buy a coin to sell on i always ask myself if i'd buy it for my own collection and obviously the answer to that question was yes. Holed or not i still think it's a nice coin to Look at but take onboard everything said.
  20. A reversed C does look more probable if you look at the C in VICTORIA
  21. That might be the coin Rob Actually bought? I think he's looking for it before this.
  22. Not entirely sure that its a G over D, i would think that the curvature of the alleged upside Down G to be thicker, but looking at the G in REG to the it seems to be thinner?
  23. Ok, not exactly a laugh, more trying to compute the Price difference and grade. Both coins are the same but with an 800 Pound Price difference and a half grade (apparently) What i'm trying to work out, does a plugged hole really drop the grade so far, is the 1st really an AEF, to me both are the same grade. Comments, and which would you buy if you had to choose between the two? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350814885653?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D350814885653%26_rdc%3D1 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130954651547?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D130954651547%26_rdc%3D1
  24. Agreed with Colin' post, lovely coin, but with such a striking flaw i'm sure you'll come accross it sooner or later. I also think in your assesment that it's been from a foreign sale is also correct. As a matter of interest, have you asked any of the Major buyers for help? Ras, Petition crown, Roddy Richardson etc?, they may offer some light. Just a Suggestion. P.s, is that a small bend in the 3rd quarter on the REV?
