Pennies & Halfpennies Listed on Ebay
1949threepence replied to Bronze & Copper Collector's topic in Items For Sale
It's extraordinary. Still can't find anything other than the 1881H. Actually, I might be interested in one of your F148's, depending on condition. Obviously though, I simply can't see it - for whatever obscure reason. -
What is it?

Although of course, it won't be Peter Nichols himself, as he's retired, at least from cabinet making. His business was taken over and is now run by a Nottinghamshire family. They do, however, look very much like the typical Nichols cabinet. I do, meanwhile, like the look of the cabinets made by Rob Davis who himself, is a coin collector.

The McGowan Collection

Not as far as I can remember Pete. The last delivery from the US was the 1897 O.NE penny from Bob, which came via the USPS tracking facility - which incidentally was absolutely brilliant. I thought the tracking might stop when the item left the USA, but it carried on over here until right until the Royal Mail guy knocked at the door and I signed for it - took 9 days, 4 over there and 5 over here. Steep - and that would be on top of the 20% buyer premium. So 40% over hammer price. Thanks Bob - useful info.- 65 replies

I've never paid anything on coins from the States. They've always just been delivered straight to my door. Is it due to the way they are described on the packet and the value quoted? I have paid customs duty on two other items, both of which took weeks to arrive and had obviously been opened.- 65 replies

Presumably then Bob, the coins themselves would also be currently located in Dallas awaiting the auction - or perhaps not?- 65 replies

There you go, Ian. Comes as a PDF download, so can't link unfortunately. But if you google "Terms and Conditions of auction - Heritage Auctions" it should come up.- 65 replies

All I can say is "wow", what a collection ! The 1860 UNC (not that far off BU) mule penny interests me greatly, but I fear I would be blown out of the water on bidding. By the way the link is here for convenience.- 65 replies

I can't see anything other than the 1881H either. If I click "see other items" it just takes me back to the original page. -

Looks good Chris. I thought at first the new black and white emoticons had replaced the originals, but scrolling down, I note they are still there, so won't take the hump lol 🐫 -
Silliness of the "Un-researched Purchase" Variety

Ah, so that's the reason. Well I'm not more deserving than you. Although I'm not a legend, more a leg end -
It's incredible the rubbish they come up with to try and rip off the unsuspecting punter.

It's misleading Bob, misled both of us. When I first saw it on the dnw site, I genuinely thought it might be a new type, which is why I bought the up to date 2016 Freeman book, expecting to see it in there. Somebody, somewhere, has deliberately made that up. What's the modern expression? - fake news

Well, thanks for this Paddy and for the thread, Madness. This was a subject about which I knew nothing. Wouldn't have even known what proclamation coins were. Certainly would never have guessed that coins from various lands were all used in Australia post 1800, and that each were allotted a different value. Perfect for collecting.

Agreed, Jerry. Mine would be:- 1/ Keep a sense of humour. 2/ Accept that others beside me have a right to their opinion. We're all different. 3/ I'm not always right. In fact there is usually no definitively right or wrong answer. Life is not 20 maths questions. 4/ Go in with the perspective that you can have a blazing row, but still emerge mates afterwards, shake hands and have that cyber pint together.Whatever's said in here, we leave it at the door and don't talk about it anywhere else. 5/ Never hold a grudge. It's not personal, it's politics. 6/ I'm a rottweiler
