  1. Looking at the original Farthings, the reverses - one is clearly not the listed A or B, given the lighthouse size, Ship standard etc? My freeman only lists 2, Colins site only lists 2 (aboutfarthings). Am I missing something please?
  2. Nice when you find it before you sell it
  3. Here's a few which make me look carefully. Font of inscription - fake seems to be thinner. Goggles - Real one has a more defined inner incuse ring. Lines across the face - more wavy on the real one, better defined ear. The TM next to the Olympic logo is narrower on the real coin.
  4. It's so random, you just don't know what oddity will be the next "kew" these days. Which publication or newsfeed aren't we reading to get a heads-up on it?
  5. I wouldn't worry. I post some pics of shocking coins
  6. So many year sets are being bought up and split, selling the odd coin for hugely inflated prices - I'm not even sure a market exists yet, but that doesn't seem to be stopping it. But why? it's cheaper to buy a year set. I think I need to approach scholls and re-introduce "common sense".
  7. To 2017, may everyones hopes and dreams (and especially much sought after aqusistions) be realised in 2018. Happy Nerw Year! Kev
  8. I meant to add a questionmark to the title, but my keyboard skills lack somewhat. I wondered why I hadn't seen much in the way of responses, but given a statement like that for a title, it doesn't lend itself to much of a conversation starter, does it? Given that Peter has taken the time to provide some (rather harsh but accurate) critique, is there any other opinion on how much of a disaster this one is? Should I get even a glimmer of hope from the large 1over small 1 in the date (1/1861) and what very much appears to be a larger V over an inverted A for the V of Victoria? The D of D:G is clearly a die-fill issue, and the offset colon after F:D: is already noted but for a different year. Looks to me like an A1+1A, as always please feel free to correct me here. ESC is not exactly brimming with info for the 1861.
  9. The 40mm ones fit nicely into the large trays in the Lidl coin boxes. I just bought a 16mm punch to add a new hole for my sixpences, as the ones with "british coin" inserts don't go that small.
  10. It looked really quite lovely (I still think it does), but up close and personal it has some interesting features.
  11. Thank you Coinery It doesn't mean a vast amount (at the moment) but will probably give me hours of fun in the futire when I try to understand these hammered blighters.
  12. A slight diversion - could anyone actually ID my previously refferred to, beat up little farthing for me please? It'd be much appreciated, as far as I could get was Eddie. Farthing. Small (~10ish mm, its a 15mm flip)
  13. Yes, I need to stop buying silver... but then some pennies are more expensive. I still don't understand Pounds Shillings and Pence, but it is awfully pretty
  14. Thats not very sporting, at least these people have reasonably priced BIN's on all their novelties.
  15. That really is a great looking example too. Wish mine looked that nice, Its a shame you didn't get this one!
  16. He can buy all of mine at half of that price !
  17. Thanks Vicky, I hope to spend some considerable time accumulating much more of your namesake before I get to the later Georges - obviously if I can bag anything decent at sill money along the way, I'll not be rude enough to refuse. If I could go back in time to when I started, I'd probably tell myself to aim for a monarch with far less cost and variety involved
  18. Well, the sports results would be correct
  19. Thank you again, Rob. You;ve raised some very objective points and I'll certainly take them into consideration when I get an updated version. My (inherited) copy is more than 1 revision out, and I wasn't sure if there was anything else which could be considered a "better" guide.
  20. Thanks Rob, my ESC is overdue for an update. Davies will hopefully be joining me for a turkey sandwhich and a quiet couple of hours on the 25th
  21. As per the title, which books are the most accurate/useful for Victorian silver coin errors please. Christmas is coming and "santa" needs some extra ideas, so more additions to the library are highly probable Additionally are there any specific online resources for Vicky silver which I may not have stumbled upon, but which are a gold mine of silver info? Thanks!
  22. That annoys me to the point of frustration. "selling on Ebay" is not the same as "has sold" and the former really should include "and is listed by a complete numbnuts" I feel I need to list some old "error" copies of newspapers - the ones where they actually contained "facts" and did not deliberately mislead the reader.
  23. I'm just trying a new camera for when the images aren't required to be exceptional - ebay 50p's and forum posts where quick and dirty will do. I wanted something plugged in to the pc, which can sit connected unobtrusively for quickie shots, rather than having to break out the DSLR every time. This is a £23 webcam, and windows 10's inbuilt image software to crop the spare, I would be interested to know your thoughts. The first coin for your perusal then gentlemen.
