  1. Try doing a search on the forum, or it can sometimes be better to do it on Google with 'site:www.predecimal.com/forum' after the string.
  2. A lot of money for bronze. I'd be worried that a slight loss of lustre would wipe hundreds off the value. I see it was ended early, after just a few hours. I expect someone made a big offer.
  3. Hello custard1966, yep, I´ll give you that one, you are quite right but ask the average collector to pick out the 1926 Modified from two photos and I think the results would be suprising. Hi Gary, You're absolutely right. I'm pretty sure I picked up that tip from somewhere - perhaps Michael Gouby's site, though it's not there at present. It's intriguing that the most obvious difference doesn't seem to have been spotted by any of the major authors. I've found an ME 1926 Penny! VG or perhaps NF for the reverse.
  4. If you want another German commemorative coin Oli, I have the most amazing 1871 Prussian Sieges Thaler. Deeply toned prooflike (or possibly even proof) surfaces and sharp devices. A wonderful example of a coin that is pretty common in average conditions. £25 if you want it.
  5. The thing is, I wanted to keep the forum separate to some degree, that's why it doesn't look like the rest of the site. During my current redesign I'll probably do something to get more people looking at the coins and accessories via this area.
  6. Have you actually been to www.predecimal.com and had a look around? I really must get more people looking around and not just think the forum is all there is.
  7. I don't know much about Italian coins, but the coin in that image looks very crude to me, not what you'd expect from a Western nation at that time. Having said that though, the Krause pictures aren't always the right size. For example, the Britannia British groats of WIV and VIC have been shown as the same size as the maundy groat for some time...Which is wrong, they should be the same size as a threepence.
  8. £100, plus postage, which will probably be about £10.
  9. Could it be a later restrike? I'm not sure without looking if the 1806/7 soho dies got sold later on with the cartwheel dies.
  10. Argh, my arch rival!
  11. Disguise your personal appearance and use randon internet cafes. Try not to use the same once twice with the same disguise!
  12. I have a spare Peck, but they aren't cheap.
  13. Who? Yes, they are well reputed too (established 1666) but they won't be able to do much from a photo, they'll want to feel it! There's also some bloke in Wales, I forget his name (funny bloke, had the hump with me over some silly copyright issue, I forget the details now). He knew his stuff though, used to be the Queens Assay Master. Have a google for 'Coin authentication' and when you find a website that looks like it was made by an 8 year old....you've found him
  14. Are you in the East Anglia/Cambs area then?
  15. If you click quickly on images 3, then 5, then 4, it gives the animated effect that the coin is moving upwards. That's about the only remotely interesting thing about the listing.
  16. I don't think you can just email him, he's very busy and I wouldn't expect a reply even if you could find his email address. If you write a nice covering letter and send it special delivery it should be ok. No doubt they get a lot of that kind of thing though, so as I say, expect a bit of a wait.
  17. The whole 1989 coins looked like that...I had a set of them. Quite popular because of the design. I'm sure they're in Spink, even if not illustrated.
  18. I have a few Canadian tokens with Wellington on, that's what I suspected it was.
  19. That'll be Lockdales, and in my experience they are bad! I sent some things to them to be put in there auction (not coins) and 2 items vanished off the planet. I'm not sure, but I bet they happened to be the 2 most valuable items! They have been most unhelpful and I'm about to write a letter to their manager. Send the coin to the Royal Mint, they will take an age confirming it, but you will get it back and it will come back with written proof either way. And of course they are not dealers so will be neutral. Dr Kevin Clancy is the man at the mint.
  20. Yes I do that too sometimes, although it can be time consuming. If someone can invent a programme that takes 2 scans/images of say 20 coins per image, revs on one, obvs on the other, and detects the coin and matches each of the 20 revs with the correct obvs (from about the same relative position) then I'd be the first customer!
  21. Is your gimp any better than having to cut the rev out and paste it in a space next to the obv? I wish I could find a program that did that automatically!
  22. I imagine it's the same with British coins.
  23. I don't know any that are absolutely confirmed as real errors and not cleverly hollowed and stuck together coins.
  24. How did you acheive the plain black backgrounds?
  25. And thanks for buying my book Bob!
