  1. It's impossible to say with real accuracy because the mega rarities are not often sold, and when they are sold they usually get auctioned and the prices go up each time. To date, the most expensive British penny ever was the gold Anglo-Saxon Coenwulf penny found a year or 2 ago. That went for £240,000 the first time, and know I think the asking price is more like £300,000. As for modern pennies, the 1933 might raise more than a 1937 Edward VIII.
  2. Certainly an interesting reverse.

William does, but he's not been in for a while.
  4. (or even the 80's with an 01 London prefix before they changed to 081/071)
  5. Yes, the IP is Romanian. I didn't mean to scare you off writing in English for ever!
  6. What? Spam is one thing, nonsense is quite another! If you mean the search facility on the forum, it should work....Or you could also try using google and putting 'site: www.predecimal.com' after the text string.
  7. The next book will be out about October. There won't be room to illustrate all the varieties, but to have a couple would certainly be interesting.
  8. I may be interested too, especially if he'll grant me permission to use the odd image in the next book (if they are good enough quality, and with credit given of course).
  9. Things like 'Purple Rhino' and the like you mean?
  10. Were they sold to someone on the forum?
  11. Could you post reasonable sized pictures on here?
  12. That one was China. Another IP range to ban. And I've removed the links.
  13. Looks like a repro to me, it's too round, the rim is too good and the style is not entirely Romanesque. Whats the diameter in mm?
  14. Well I wouldn't go that far.
  15. You tell 'em Burpalot.
  16. It was the only recognisable 'money' related thing that I could think of! A coin symbol was too small.
  17. I accumulate them and sell them for 40p each. Unfortunately they made them in huge numbers and no one really wants them.
  18. I'm suspicious that you know the legend reads Clodius Septimius Albinus Caes, because on all Roman coins there are no spaces and it can be very difficult to read what they say on them....So how did you know where to put the spaces? If it's a real coin then it's clearly from the time of Clodius Albinus (about 195AD). You should attach a picture to your next post.
  19. There's no need to post in 2 places. This sounds Roman and therefore is ancient related, so I've deleted the other one.
  20. Very well written description isn't it.
  21. The problem with that idea (like the Whitman folders of the 60's) is that when people find new varieties you suddenly don't have enough room....Also, if a space for every known variety was given, you'd have gaps all over the place that would probably never get filled.
  22. They'd tried to include html in the post in order to make it more difficult to report. Fortunately, I was still able to delete them both. It's so ridiculous isn't it, all it is, is a complete waste of my time....And why is it always in the beginners area I wonder. I'll have a look to see if I can make that area less attractive to those dodgy gits with no life that insist on advertising questionable wares.
  23. Earlier today the member sunyang spammed at least 15 of the most recent topics with similar messages about coins for sale, with an email address, and pictures of Chinese coins. This is absolutely not acceptable, and will not be tolerated! The messages have been deleted, the user has been banned without notice. Their email has been banned as has the whole IP range from which the user registered. This behaviour is childish, annoying and any attempts by sunyang or anyone else to repeat this will be removed right away, so to even think about it would be futile.
  24. Granted the non-coin trinkets are naff,However, lots of interesting new sets, whats amateur about that? What's interesting about them? It's all rubbish, mass produced and advertised in a way to make people believe that it 'might be worth something in a few years'. It never is (apart from the odd error that genuinely is rare). Get your modern coins from circulation, don't actually buy them! It's been like that since the coin collecting boom in the 60s, when some mint official somewhere thought it would be a great way of making money, if they could sell 'collectable' coins direct to collectors. So they mark the most obscure occassions with a special coin, and in rolls the cash. The stamp and banknote people do exactly the same. I've slagged off modern coins elsewhere. Don't waste your money.
  25. It's assumed in Peck that the proof is always sharply struck (which is no doubt the case), but there is no mention of the 'I' pointing in Peck. I'll have to clarify that a bit in the next one if possible. Does anyone know if the 'I' pointing variety also occurs in the proof coin?
