  1. Ok, Kuhli, give it a go. I generally find that the results aren't great behind plastic.
  2. Ah yes, so it is. It's not really a major prob should they arrive here when I'm in the UK.
  3. Go for it Geordie, that would be a huge help! Send them all airsure, properly insured, to reach me in Germany before the 5th June if you can....Or if not, I'll be in the UK and can give you a UK address. Oli...If the packaging is completely clear it might be possible. I can set a thing up on my camera to focus at a certain point, so that it will hopefully focus on the coin, not the plastic. I've not really tried it though, so perhaps a coupld of naked ones will come along.
  4. I'm collaborating with Kuhli on a 'Check Your Change 2007 - Decimal Coinage' book and I need some coins to provide images in the book. I had all the types from Half Pence to 25p crown, but I need quite a few of the commemorative types. Kuhli also has a lot, but he's in the USA so it would probably be expensive to send them. So, can anyone provide me with any of the coins listed below by post? (I'll send them back registered with a cheque for your postage to me). At the time of writing I need 38 coins (Should be UNC at least, or even proof if you don't have the standard type): 1998 EU 50p 1998 NHS 50p 2003 Suffragette 50p (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2004 4 min mile 50p (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2005 Dictionary 50p (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 1987 or 1992 £1 1988 £1 1994 or 1999 £1 1995 or 2000 £1 (FOUND ONE!) 2004 bridge £1 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2005 bridge £1 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 1989 Claim of rights £2 1994 B of E £2 1995 Dove £2 (FOUND ONE!) 1995 UN £2 (FOUND ONE!) 1996 Football £2 1997 Standard £2 1999 Rugby £2 2001 Marconi £2 2002 Games Eng £2 Sco £2 NI £2 Wal £2 2003 DNA £2 2004 Train £2 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2005 Fawkes £2 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2005 St Pauls £2 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 1996 Flags £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 1998 Prince trust £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 1999 Diana £5 1999 Y2K £5 2000 Y2K £5 2000 Queen Mum £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2001 Victoria £5 2002 Accession £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2002 Queen Mum £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2003 Jubilee £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2004 Entente £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2005 Nelson £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) 2005 HMS Victory £5 (GEORDIE ON THE CASE) Can anyone help?
  5. Easier to link just to the image: http://www.predecimal.com/forum/uploads/11..._141_2_1402.jpg (that works too)
  6. Just leave them, they'll probably expire. This is your home Geordie, this is where you belong
  7. The biggest is a cartwheel twopenny, the smaller is a cartwheel penny.
  8. Everybody likes comical cows, especially with big wet noses.
  9. Tell you what I have got that looks similar and is a lot cheaper... A so called "Elizabeth II Specimen Set' It's in a case, probably made in the 60's (unofficially) and contains one of each of the 8x 1962 coins. The coins are UNC but about half have not been toned very attractively by the case lining (the 6d is really nice). You could buy this and then find really BU 1962 coins to fill it. £5 to you, and it's worth that just for the case! You coming to the London coin fair?
  10. That's a George I Farthing, c. 1720's. Most of the others are fathings too, but none are nice enough to be worth more than a pound or 2 each.
  11. Avatars are now up to 100x100 pixels (before it was 64x64). So, some of your images that have been resized may need playing with to stop them looking blurry. I've already updated my cow and given her some fetching red stripes at the top and bottom!
  12. That's something I want to do too, because otherwise people won't even know there is a gallery!
  13. That was just a start up image to get people going. I picked it quite randomly and I'm afraid it was sold a while ago (for £85 I think). Glad you like the new features Juan!
  14. Here's an interesting screen shot listing the attempted forum registrants from the 23rd May until about midday on the 26th May. This forum does seem to be very popular with Russians! There's also an Iraqi registrant :s I emailed the one on the bottom to confirm that he/she had a genuine interest in coins. Never got a reply, but a day later he/she tried to register again with a different ID! In case any of them are real, I've hidden the email addresses. But, I doubt that very much, they are most probably all automated attempts to gain membership with the intention of spamming about porn, medications and gambling. I think I may as well delete all the @mail.ru account from now on without even asking!
  15. The slabbed '34 I had wasn't slabbed by me. I don't think I'd go to the risk of sending valuable coins to the USA to get them slabbed, unless they were American or Canadian coins (which do go a bit mad when slabbed as very high grades). I've done it with Canadian coins before, and it's not that cheap really and only worth doing for the coins that you consider to be practically perfect. I sent 6 coins and 4 came back MS60+, 2 of which were MS64 and the other 2 were AU58. Most British coins still sell within the UK, and while it may be worthwhile doing it with the almost legendary modern coins, eg a top grade 1934 crown, a 1937 Sovereign, 1905 halfcrown, 1869 penny (all have to be UNC or better) etc...I'd personally not consider it for coins under £500 value, and I don't think the values of most coins would be increased all that much by slabbing. When sending things from the UK, the maximum insured value to the USA is only £500 and even that's touch and go if when something goes missing the RM decide it was 'money' and don't cover it! The best thing to do (and I have considered this) is save up a few top grade rare valuable coins (worth say £10,000 minimum to make it worthwhile) and visit one of the coin shows in the US where they grade them while you wait. Having say 10 coins authenticated, each worth about £1000 each to start with may well make them more interesting enough to cover your air fair. But....they are strict at PCGS/NGC etc, and you should bear in mind, that all the coins need to turn out at least MS63 to give them that extra something. No one will pay much over catalogue for most MS60's or below, and certainly most AU58's and below aren't worth slabbing.
  16. I've got that too! I used it to convert some of the image files of the old Rotographic books into gifs.
  17. Ah, yes, I'll have a look at that.
  18. I use Jasc PaintShop which has loads of features and is very cheap. It should be possible (in a round about way) in paint.
  19. No, Post all you like Geordie, there is no limit. Seeing what others have in their collection is interesting. It gives the site some new and frequently updated content, and should therefore encourage visitors, and some of those will no doubt buy things, so it's all good.
  20. My god, it's eating up the old band width use already! But, it's ok, I've done another deal with the hosts and I know get lots of bandwidth and webspace for a fixed annual fee, and I'm, going to plaster the forum with (subtle) ads to try and get some of that back.
  21. Exactly! I'm going to do something with the top bit, but one thing at a time.. And the avatar sizes.
  22. Just checking it's not just me that can see the distinctive blue and biege look?
  23. The new link 'Gallery' above leads to the gallery area. To add your own public album you need to use the option in 'My Controls'. It seems quite straight forward, why not give it a go.
  24. It gets easier every year! Soon a GCSE will be about the same as an old 11+ and an A level will be like a GCSE. (Happy B-Day Jon)
  25. Pictures should work again now! That just looks like a double struck (double punched) 1858, you can see that even the border beads are doubled at the bottom.
