    You heard it first here.... A man in Wales, while laying a pipe in a field found a hoard of 2300+ Roman coins dating from 250 - 295AD. I think most are base metal. He has registered the find officially and the Crown will buy them from him to be put in a museum. He found them on his own land, so won't have to split the money! I'll post more details when I know anything. I think it's possibly the biggest ever Welsh Roman coin hoard. For obvious reasons I will not reveal his identity.

    Damn right goodheart. Selling anything is about presentation, that's including the description and layout, but most important is always the image.

    You really didn't need to go to those lengths! I'm surprised actually that Spink gave you the time of day, especially as I believe they are short of a modern milled expert at the moment.

    Talking of Rolf Harris I'm actually in contact with his PA. in '72 my dad did a gig with him and I have photograhic evidence (also on the Rolf Harris website). Rolf has offed to sign the pictures.

    Geoff, I know you're from the Wirral area and into music and medals, so I couldn't resist a little sterling silver medal at the recent London coin fair. It's 30mm in dia with a loop attached to the top. On the obverse it has 'WIRRAL MUSICAL FESTIVAL 1912'. On the reverse is a wreath around the edge with the centre blank for engraving. The reverse is hallmarked, as is the silver loop. A lovely little thing, and it's yours for £15 including postage.

    Yes it is, I have lots like that. Many are pretty good quality and many are completely free from silver remains.

    I've had a number of wreath crown listings ripped off by far easteners. I try to report them when I can, and they do get removed (although you never get a thankyou from ebay of course).

    I read recently that there is a couple of these cars in the USA. When they were new they were not exported, but nowadays it is possible to get them road legal in America. Shipping is probably expensive...Why don't you fly over and drive it back across Russia/Alaska?

    Isn't it amazing that when a novice has a coin of a certain date, that very often they assume it's the rarest and most valuable type by default. They look in a book, which is a good start of course, but they seem to completely ignore the lower values and lower grades! It's an interesting phonemenon (sp!) The doubling of the date numerals is quite common on coins of this era Mell.

    If you have a rough idea of what you're doing, it can be practical, cheap and reliable to have an older car...But you need to be an enthusiast really, and of course it helps if you live in the country you keep the car!

    Yes it is! I'd forgotten about that. It got all the way from Kent to Milton Keynes and back with the greatest of ease. I remember that was before the new coil so it ran pretty rough when properly warm at that time. I also visited a customer near Reading during the week I saw you. I'd be happy with £500 I suppose, just to get it out of the way so I have one less commitment.

    Emperor Oli is now a Moderator in most areas. I'm away early June, so he can delete the odd spam thing when I'm unable to. It's not just for that reason though, Oli is a long standing member, has demonstated himself to be serious about all this, and hasn't spouted any right wing bollocks for quite a while now Congratulations E-Oli.

    I don't think it's the kind of thing the Swiss mint would advertise! It's possible, but no-one will ever know for sure as the original Nazi gold has probably been melted and remelted by now.

    It's a fake sovereign. Fake because 1890 is an impossible date for George V. It looks like it's some kind of brass alloy and it was probably made in China within the last 5 years.
