    It is strictly speaking illegal, but it was mentioned here once by wise old Oli that the folks in blue are not likely to do anything because it isn't really in the public interest. They need to spend resources finding out who makes them, not who collects them. I'll keep them, with my collection of various fakes from the last few hundred years....Which I really must photograph fully one day.

    There are no crowns from that date, unless you have a Spanish countermarked coin. You better tell us about the size and metal or post a picture so it can be identified.

    Here's a beter picture of this fascinating error coin, which is now in my possession. I didn't realise before I got it that it's all cupro-nickel. It's also thinner than a £2 and has a milled edge with no lettering. I'm stumped as to how a 50p and a £2 got merged like this!

    Your first post already gave me that idea! The problem with them is that they cause coins to tone and dis-colour, or in a worst case scenario the coins get bronze disease and other corrosion. There probably is some kind of modern card that would do the job better, I'll have to see. It would be a good idea to lauch a range of folders with a new book I'm working an about decimals.

    They're aren't any as far as I know. Whitman are still going, you could ask them what range they did/do.

    No, they are refering to the 25p crown, the first of which appeared in 1972, ten years before the 20p became a main denomination.

    Reading all that gushy 'appology accepted, oh what a gentleman' flanel after the offenders appology makes me wonder if the whole coin world has gone far too PC (It's no wonder Bush got re-elected, do Americans always believe everything they're told??). String him up by his danglies, if someone wants to accidentally rainbow tone a coin and then re-sell it it's too late to appologise. Ban him from the CU forum, get him kicked off eBay, deposit him in Siberia!

    I do have a couple of Prussian Napoleonic 100 year anniversary coins (1913). One is the 2 mark the other is the 5. Those are UNC and £14 and £20 respectively. £30 the pair to you!

    I've approved you Ozgirl. Probably not a good idea to open it, but other that that I don't know how you're going to find out the dates! In the 60's they came in canvass kind of bags, so it should be earlier....Although if they are Australian I don't know how they packed them.

    I'm sure I've seen a picture of one of those somewhere, I don't know where. The style is modern, but of course the RM moved away from London in '68 so it should be older than that. I think that Britannia looks like a geezer, with legs spread, hammering a coin. Not very flattering is it.

    I was unlucky the first 2 times on my driving test in cousin Victor's newish Fiesta. The first time was mainly because the Police had my provisional driving licence at the time, but that's another story! The 2nd time I had the same examiner and I'm sure he remembered and failed me again. I passed on the 3rd go in my 1974 Triumph Toldeo. You could coast that thing all day, and unlike screaming modern cars the re-engagement never made a sound!

    British errors tend to usually go for around £20 - £80. This is an interesting one, so I've bought it (paid with paypal). It all depends on how much someone is willing to pay for it, there is no other measure with errors.

    I always use forumancientcoins.com ( I thik that's the URL). I know the proprietor, as he buys books from me. Then there's also wildwinds.com that's good too. Both sites have a huge database of coins and images. For the Sear books, do a search on Amazon, they have them.
