Yes, it's definitely worth taking a look at Michael G's website. Your 1853 top picture is his Style A (Italic 5), and the bottom picture is his Style C (I think this is the most common type of 5 in 1853). Like the 1858's there are many minor variations of both these types in 1853...……………….and they both appear on PT and OT, although very difficult to find a decent grade Style A on a PT. Seen less frequently is Gouby 1853 Style B, with yet another type of numeral 5, as per the picture below. Looks a bit like this 5 is on holiday doing the Rumba. I actually booked a holiday today, but not until June 6th 2022. I thought I had better make an effort, because clearly the most important thing for the UK economy to survive (and perhaps the rest of Europe for that matter) is that all the Brits can go on holiday again.

I was working on some ormolu clock mounts for a client when I remembered this pin. It had been on my desk for years and I already had the tools out, so why not. It's an onion head bronze cloak pin, probably from around 900-1100 CE and was dug in the New Forest around 30 years ago. First I soaked it in lemon juice and gave it a light scrub with a worn toothbrush. Then a go over with a nearly threadbare wire brush, the more shagged out the better in these circumstances. Next comes an initial polish with a series of rubber discs and rods, followed by a light spin on the buffing machine. This is the tricky part because I don't want to end up with something that looks brand new. Bronze is a wonderful material because it polishes up as shiny yellow as gold, imagine Bronze Age armies lined up for battle with their armour glinting in the sunlight. I just wanted this piece to show its natural beauty without looking like it had just been made. What do you think?

Hi Paddy, If you take a look for this item on eBay 353090348200, it’s the most common one but they are all the same format. They have the denomination on the back and how many of that denomination go to make another. In this example it’s 12 pennies make a shilling.

Trump is the archetypal narcissist and in good company along with most autocratic dictators that have ever existed. Putin, Erdogan, any number of leaders of former Russian areas, most South American and African countries, even this country. Politics or other forms of leadership breeds people who think highly of themselves - it is a real chicken and egg scenario. Confident people are rarely wrong (in their view). The masses should be grateful that he is only going to be President for one term or possibly two because the system is designed to ensure nobody can have an indefinite monopoly (that's a good thing) - unless he does a Putin, that is. His basic problem is that he seems to be in permanent campaign mode - and we all know that politicians say what they feel they need to say to be elected. Just treat it like any other soap opera on TV, i.e. something you switch off when the intro music comes on. We all have a big friendly off button on the remote.

It's a riot of colour really early this year.
