jelida Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Another optimist! The typo at the beginning of his second sentence seems singularly appropriate. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/One-Penny-Coin-1861-Toothed-Border-/301868882224?hash=item4648c99930:g:VCYAAOSwUuFWugtc Jerry Quote

Charlie Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 That item description though, I can't believe it's not been snapped up sooner... especially at a 'just in case' price of £700! Quote

Charlie Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) That's not even the most expensive ... look at the seller's other items. Nonsense. I know it's a drop in the ocean, but £40 postage? Edited February 19, 2016 by Charlie Quote

Rob Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 £40 postage in the context of an £11K purchase is cheap. It isn't the postage that's stupid, rather the item for sale. If I ship an item valued at over £250 abroad, the PO no longer insure it. It has to go by Parcelforce as a parcel, and the cost of that is about £50 minimum, with some rates as much as £150 or so if the value is higher. People tend to automatically dismiss postage as a trivial amount, but the last few years have seen significant changes in the system. And if on eBay you also have to add on their fee and that of Paypal. Anything under £3ish and you are short changing yourself. Quote
bagerap Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 And there is also the matter of a seller with zero feedback offering an item at that money. That's not possible on ebay.uk, new sellers are restricted, financially, as to what they can sell. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Bravo someone! 191810207129 Though a bit ridiculous people are forced to take such actions because eBay does nothing ... Quote
Rob Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 One dependable seller there - for all the wrong reasons. Quote

Either way it's a depressing sign of the times. Quote
