In the book it says maybe so who knows? But I would of thought if there was something there it would be much larger than just 2 really skinny lines?
-
I can see the shoot through of the 2 through the beginning of the 3's tip and the downstroke through the middle serif of the 3 but that is all I can see as in resemblance to a 2 but when I blew it up there is what looks like part of a line running through the bottom corner of the three that's why I thought it was a 1
-
Nope but I can see a possibility for a 1 the top right serif and there could well be a part of an upright in that bottom curve of the 3? Ahhh so that's what it looks like

Hopefully back in 2007 I had a convincing argument for them change the rules. Body bagging rare varieties with no record taken is depriving the whole coin collecting fraternity of coins they would never know about. Imagine they did it to any of the super rare varieties we have. Just because it has something deemed not fit for grading purpose because of verdigris it doesn't stop it being a coin actually minted and actually being a variety. As long as the label says what is wrong with the coin it has a rightful place in coin databases. Short version my argument then was who are they to decide what is or what is not a variety. They are there to give the coin an MOT that is all. Collectors decide what they will collect not TPG's . ultra Rare coins in any condition will be purchased by collectors . I had loads returned with some minute spot on an UNC coin with nothing to say what it was. Just ungraded in a plastic wallet. Not their place to designate what a variety is only to confirm or dismiss it being what is being sent in for.

Bar top ideas?
zookeeperz replied to WildCamper's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
And aptly as it is that is where my nic came from playing Takomi's Zookeeper for hours and hours -
Perhaps it has something to do with the luster or patina that we cannot see. When they put these under ultra violet lights I am guessing that if it has been cleaned there will be a flat area or dull patch. The pics prob don't show it. Just my thought But it looks fine from where I sit

1947 1/2 Anna (b) rarity
zookeeperz replied to zookeeperz's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Whilst we are all here does anyone know a guru for British India coins. I been down the usual routes online sites and even the mint in bombay itself. But still cannot get a definitive answer to why there are no 1947(b) 1/2 Anna coins . I have seen 1 other than mine in 2 years. Even krause has a cryptic description " the makeup of the 1947 Bombay coin is unknown but thought to be the same as 1946" there are no mintage figures for them. I went on world of coins but they seemed to think this coin didn't exist and all 1947 were dated 1946. Unless they run a few and decided they were not needed and cancelled the rest? -
Agreed to the left of where it stops it looks like its took a hit and there is still a fait outline of a curve but that could just be my peepers. But if memory serves the top part of the open 3 is shorter than his? and why is the bottom of the three missing? Or is that to hide the ball on the foot of a normal 3?. I smell a foul here

Yes I have also seen other dates that resemble RE to look at but never pushed on further mainly because if there were any we would of known by now.?
-
Sorry Terry I should of Put mine is a 1916 RE that resembles the tooth structure of the 1915 my bad
-
My RE Although to look at you would think this must of been an early strike as it resembles the 1915 more with just a bite out of the tooth?
-
Is he deficient in the sight department? A picture of a Britannia's Knees and a ghost picture that Could of come from anywhere. Possibly up for the award of worse pictures of the year award?
-
I watched that episode and you just cannot help but laugh and being the professional that he is it must of been a nightmare to try and keep it together. Great show shame most of the contestants are Divs. But it's easy sitting in a chair shouting the answers at the tv. I think it would be nerve racking being there

I have already been stitched up twice for over £800 one for a fake coin that was a magnetic piece of garbage and another that claimed the lots as ex collection and a very useful lot of victorian pennies. Not 1 coin was better than fine and no varieties amongst them. LCA handled 2 of my consignments and screwed me over. Why I used them twice god only knows. then there are the auctions that will post your coin in a jiffy bag if you want to pay £50 for the privilege it's just left me with a bitter taste in my mouth when it comes to auctions. I dare say there are good guys but certainly not the majority. I just get angry when I see the likes of that 1933 penny being touted as a "could be would be, Might be" by an auctioneer that has already been flooded with posts telling them it is a fake coin and it's becoming more and more the norm than the just odd sale. Catwiki another load of crooks Then you have the stories from the members who have had their own problems with so called reputable dealers and auctions. When did it get so cutthroat? It never used to be like this. Even the bay a decade ago was full of a decent smatter of coins from all areas and some fantastic mixed lots. All those are now extinct and the place is just a training ground for crooks-r-us! I am kind of buggered as I can't get to any auctions so online is my only outlet. I need these places to be my eyes and to be honest as If I was there viewing the coins myself. If they cannot do both they have no business adding online to their sales criteria because they fail to cater properly for that side of the business.
-
If they cannot confirm authenticity then they have no business selling it. They have been contacted by scores of very knowledgeable dealers collectors and been told categorically it is a fake coin. Yet they continue with the sale purely for commision and a financial extortion. It's fraud simple as. trying to pass the excuse we are just the hosts isn't a valid reason. If you are there when a murder is committed and do nothing about it your complicit and as guilty as the killer. This is my whole argument with auctions they are all crooks and I stand by it.

yes what i do is click the split quarter rotation icon the first of the 4 and in the mini pop up window click the second box tab and then click the first box tab twice alternately and then do your adjustment. As it doesn't seem to save if you just click left tab and adjust. 2nd tab will rotate and enlarge the view at the same time. I suspect that is not for whole coin pics but for getting a good close up of a particular area. As I wrote this last part the penny dropped lmao. I have been using it for years
-
Agreed I would be lost without my photoscape. Even to do that 1/2 degree rotation to straighten the coin up is so valuable for picture presentation. Most programs don't do such small rotations. I would recommend it to anyone especially being a free program
-
yes I have seen this as well before the addition of multiple listings they would list 20 coins all with the same picture pitching them as all from a bank roll and to picture every coin was too time consuming the first 5 would be £5 the 6th coin would be £50 and so would the 15th coin they would also put postage £2 and same format but at different points in the list of 20 they would make the postage £20. Just hoping people wouldn't notice. As if lol.
-
By the look of the sales pitch and him/her mentioning an 1807 half penny I reckon one was meant to be the 1807 probably from an old draft. they forgot they listed the 1827 and relisted it thinking one was 1807. Probably after a friday night out on the lash

you need to up the reso on your scan bud image is very small and cannot really see anything.Logic would say send to LCGS as it is an English coin and that is their field but I don't like or trust their grading criteria but that is just me. Plenty of collectors use them and they are still in business but I would pop a footnote of your findings in if you do send it off. Weather they take any notice is another thing altogether
