  1. It should weigh 38 grams 35 mm and 4.4 mm depth
  2. you will find a lot of these foreign copies in big mixed lots they are specifically used to draw the punters in. Making you think you have a potential bargain. They know exactly what they are doing and it is the easiest way to get them floating around the marketplace. lately it seems we cannot turn left or right and the forgers are already there and getting better and better. If I have said it once I have said it a hundred times the line should be drawn now and any fantasy/replica coins have to carry R or Copy or be illegal to sell. And thethird party sites like ebay should be stung with massive fines for complicity to exact fraud as this is basically what they are doing
  3. I don't like to be a doom slayer but look at the position of the P of Portugal It shouldn't be at the front of the head?
  4. My bad sorry mate must be either one of krauses famous fopars or a jeckyl perhaps?
  5. yours is the KM#370 JOANNES VI.D.G. the KM#365 is JOANNES.D.G. and the KM#371 has a different globe same as the 345.1
  6. Thanks yes I was looking at the higher side of GVF if the I and P had been full then defo an EF . Actually its nicer than the pic. My cam shots in daylight for some reason are so much worse than at night. Perhaps due to light being more focused on the subject at night?
  7. Really pleased with this . thought it was going to be a dog but pleasantly surprised. Much better grade than I thought it was. Almost a serious coin
  8. I pushed on a stage further and left the coin submerged for 2 hours not expecting any real difference but I guess it was a small gain. It is practice to try and use locally on a said verdigris spot or area. Obviously results may and will vary dependent on the metal composition Brass being the hardiest . So whilst a small improvement on those metal based coins might not be the same for copper and bronze. If a valuable coin has a verdigris spot I don't see it as detrimental to try and remove it with the less invasive method possible and it certainly isn't with cleaning the coin to look something it isn't . It is to stop the ruin of a good coin by a progressive fungal invader. It is just at the moment all products on the market are so harsh on the metals it is almost impossible not to do more harm than good. So looking at the other end of the question how can TPG remove this parasite and label it conservation yet we try to do the same and get details grade?
  9. Almost bought one last week £100 . ummed and arred and decided to stick to my main area of focus errors and varieties. was a bargain though tbh.
  10. Totally agree. My first £200 spent were on books. Without the knowledge you would be walking into a minefield . Plus they contain great pictures and what to look for . Always ask here if you have any questions or are unsure of something. There are probably some of the most knowledgeable in the coin world on this forum (excluding me of course)
  11. All I remember was they weren't all D.F.I as that was what people were asking did anyone check anything to see if they were genuine?
  12. Makes you wonder if those so called hoard of 1841 half pennies are all legit?
  13. I am thinking because these are so good perhaps someone is taking a plaster or rubber mold of a coin and making dies from those.Would take a lot of skill though I would of thought?
  14. Welcome to the forum. A very nice coin . I think I shall move to the states Spinks have that W.W incuse on truncation @ £450 in VF. Nice find
  15. Well I have let them all know those that have them for sale. I guess it is up to them what they do with the information
  16. It is a fantasy coin retail of £5.49 . I have seen 6 on the bay ranging from £50-£250 some with bidders. I feel like I should put them wise as they all look like reputable sellers if there is such a thing on the bay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FANTASY-COIN-1818-King-George-III-Half-Crown-1-2-NOVELTY-Coin-UK-dark-colour/173124271826
  17. It is the coin up top on my first post and it looks like it is now confirmed that it is a fake as it has the same dent in the forehead and the 2 die breaks above PE of PENSE. This particular coin according to derek was struck with the wrong die orientation and was 0.5g underweight. The worrying thing is it fooled the auctioneers. So without these markers more could slip past. Also begs the question how many have already been purchased as genuine. Lets hope none of you guys have any in your collections
  18. There is also 1860 HALP for HALF Penny although not listed
  19. Yes the post was by Derek Allen sozz my bad
  20. Thought I would put this here seeing as it is to do with cleaning. I am trying some less invasive methods of cleaning but I am not convinced anything has altered. Although the one thing that has stayed the same is the integrity of the surface as in it still looks uniform in appearance and not washed out like they normally do. Can you see any difference from the initial untouched coin the before treatment and the last coin which was a second stage application or repeat process after was 5 mins and after that was 10 mins. I only used lemon juice for the acidity bicarb soda as an agitant and pure olive oil as a surface protection or lubricant. Weather all combined they had the desired effect I am not sure. I think it would be ok if the surface was just dusty as the juice isn't strong enough to penetrate the natural patina at short duration but for substantial staining and verdigris removal it's not potent enough. So a work in progress
  21. A little bit of market research and a ton of common sense needed I think https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1907-Edward-VII-Silver-Half-Crown-High-Grade/263662113886
  22. Looks like the coin has possibly been double struck or even more between the P and E it looks very much like the trident prong tips just sitting below the linear circle? also strange that you mention smaller lettering I was going to say the date looks like it has been struck over a smaller date. possibly an 8 inside the 0 and a smaller 6 under the 6?
  23. The guy went in to realms of coin composition and die position which was over my head let me see ah here is the post. I am sure the the math guru's will understand it "1818 half crown forgery. Here are two photographs of a dud halfcrown which I purchased last week on e-bay. The standard of workmanship is amazing but I spotted it for the following reasons; 1) the coin is en coin i.e. the sides are at 180 degrees to each other. This was normal for British silver coins up until 1887 but the George III coins of 1816-20 are a major exception; 2) It weighs in at 13.63g i.e. some 0.5g light when compared with other coins of the same era. If you can still get into it, the item number was 163026017759 . On balance though, I think the seller was as much a victim as I would have been as his e-bay record shows no history of selling such items. Needless to say, it is going back Monday morning." I just realised en coin is meaning coin alignment and these were supposed to be medal alignment. Although there have been coins struck the wrong way up before on our coinage? 0.5g does seem a bit outside of the tolerance though?
  24. Just been on FB group and a guy bought this from fleabay. Turns out it is a fake . Jesus they get better and better.
  25. Makes you wonder with all the fakes he sells how is still 100% rated. Just cannot believe ebay are allowed to just sweep criminal activity under the carpet as if it never existed
