  1. Nearer VF than EF I would've thought?
  2. No thank you! Affectation. Pantomime masquerading as avant garde. 'Look out, he's behind you!' 'Oh no he isn't.' 'Oh yes he is.' 'Oh no he…' etc etc. This is more like it…..
  3. Clearly Peter, you are a man of good taste. I saw them at Eric's 78/79. Spellbinding.
  4. I may now be a stuffy old opera and early music bod, but when young I liked other things. An Australian single I played to destruction, and a Manchester record I still like forty years on.
  5. LOVE the Sixteen. We catch their annual pilgrimage tour each year in Liverpool.
  6. Euripides trousers, Eumenides trousers….. Boom, boom. Thank you, thank you. I'm here all week, matinees Tuesday and Thursday, tell your friends.
  7. My wife is a professional (Dr) classicist so a thumbs up from here Larry.
  8. Planned for early retirement began last year. Before that, 30 years working in publishing as an illustrator, mostly children's books. Before that, making a racket with electric guitars.
  9. Yes, straight away. Still pricey at £310. That spade guinea is only worth scrap weight.
  10. I'd happily listen to Wilko Johnson all day long.
  11. Everly Brothers? You'll not hear any objections from me. If we're talking prog's last gap? Bring it on. Couldn't come too soon. Here's one. July 1973. I saw this show a few weeks earlier at the Liverpool Empire. I was 14.
  12. Sorry, I can't be doing with all this army greatcoat, groups biro-ed onto school bags, patchouli dabbed behind the ears, stuff. I've always liked toe-tappin' songs. This evening I've been losing myself in the glorious sounds of Dusty, and I don't care who knows it....
  13. Your political preferences are yours alone and none of my business. I made my 'glass houses' comment in response to your suggestion our Antipodean cousins may be unable to construct a coherent sentence. That you didn't get this is priceless.
  14. I was beginning to feel it was a little unfair of me to have posted the 'glass houses' comment. I see now I am vindicated.
  15. Glass houses...
  16. There isn't a person on here who didn't make a mistake when starting out. Have a look at this link, you'll see a selection of accurately graded 1794 guineas. Having your coin in hand you'll be able to compare and determine grade better than we can from the photos. http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&searchterm=Guinea+1794&category=9&searchtype=1
  17. I'd grade at near fine for the obverse/fine for the reverse. Only having these photos to go by it is difficult to be certain but Pete's probably right, polished too. Why is it such an odd colour? In my opinion £420 is too expensive.
  18. G over O 1821 Larry, not 22. I have an EF+ example myself. A recognised variety though, as to what is actually showing under the G, the jury is still out.
