  1. It does a bit! Though I'd never hold that against you Dave. Have a great 2019.
  2. Couldn't agree more Rob. This past year we've bought a Wei Dynasty brick shrine (C3rd AD), a Red Figure Pelike (C3rd BC), an Anatolian ceramic bull (C24th-21st BC), and a European bronze pilgrim badge (C15th AD). Each gives me pleasure every time I look at them.
  3. Don't wear watches, don't know anyone who does. These modern bells and whistles things are so ugly, a bit like being shouted at by someone's wrist.
  4. Reported (again).
  5. He's relisted it. Unbelievable. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNCIRCULATED-MS-1845-Victorian-crown/312344118244?hash=item48b92903e4:g:OjQAAOSwHrlb6yM0:rk:1:pf:0
  6. I did consider putting up the Lloyd Price original of Stagger Lee but the Isleys Ready Steady Go performance is such fun, so exuberant, I couldn't resist. Tappa Zukie: one of my favourites from the Eric's/guitar playing years. Howlin' Wolf: great voice, great harmonica playing. Did you spot the length of that index finger? I bet Trump 'effin' hates him. Sad to see, in 1965, Billy Preston still thought a bad wig would be more acceptable than natural Af/Am hair. Some things are better left in the past. You're quite right, Mozart, Cecilia Bartoli, resistance is futile…. Yup, you know us Chris, ever the culture vultures. Liverpool last week for the Brahms Requiem (Requiem? I didn't even know he was poorly…). Back there this week for Joey Green's La Traviata.
  7. I'm now told the design doesn't look at all Indian, but the same person thinks it is cut in such a way as to suggest the object may be quite old. It is also thought, at 20cm, it is larger than would be expected for a glove pomander. So, the mystery continues...
  8. Yes Paddy, I did wonder if the design may be Indian so interesting you thought the same. As you suggest, it looks earlier than mid to late C19th too.
  9. Although I agree it would appear to be a silver pomander there are no marks and the workmanship is much more crude (and earlier in appearance?) than the rather lovely Gorham in Mike's photo or those in Ian's web link.
  10. You're right, it does! Thanks for that. So, place of origin? Possible age?
  11. I found it in the loft the other day and have no idea what it might be. Silver, but not hallmarked, so possibly originating overseas. The decoration and piercing have been done by hand and the object does appear to have some age to it. The overall length, with the lid in place, is 20cm and it weighs 75g. The removable lid suggests something would have been placed inside, possibly sweet smelling herbs or incense, which would account for the pierced work. There's also that empty cartouche; would this be intended for the owner's monogram or some other personal design? If anyone can tell me what it is, how old it might be, where it comes from, I'd be most grateful. Thanks.
  12. The decimal portrait being used in '66!

  14. Then cancelled a re-listing in which he'd upped the starting price to £100. That 'Only sell when times are tough son' fake 1933 1d of his sold almost two weeks ago yet there's still no feedback for it. Interesting
  15. On having taken a quick shufty, here's what I've spotted.
  16. Further temptations from the same seller. Look at these beauties Chris! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1953-to-1967-Elizabeth-2-Two-Shilling-Florins-Choice-of-Date/163314660997?hash=item26064ff685:g:IOQAAOSwr5dbugOr:rk:11:pf:0
