  1. It appears then that I have a Standard Annulet model. Condition is great but no key, so I will have to get that fixed.
  2. OK - sounds good then? I bought it "Because it was there" and I will probably end up selling ti on as I keep my own coins in albums.
  3. I picked up a small coin cabinet at auction today - appears to be mahogany, so that is OK. Label on the back says "The Stamp & Coin Shop, 3 Norman Road, St Leonards-on-sea, SX." There is also a cipher - "N" in a circle and rectangle. Anyone know much about this maker/retailer?
  4. I think that was her - right down to the payment difficulties! Always complicated and involved excuses why she can't pay until... somewhen. Then, if you watch to see what else she has bought she has had several other coins off other people and paid them promptly. (That was back in the days when you could track other peoples purchases easily!)
  5. I can probably help you. Do you want only better grade ones or will you take any grade and date? I have kilos of pennies in a box - I could sort some out for you, but the majority will be 1967 I fear. I do also have a coin roll or two of 1965 pennies...
  6. I am not sure how far you will get with this, apart from the obvious: It is a coronation medallion for George IV, who was crowned on 19th July 1821 in Westminster Abbey. I would guess the metal is the cheap medal making white metal based on a Tin alloy that is often used for cheap medals of the time. The letter K beneath the bust may be a clue to the designer, but I do not know who it refers to. With that great ugly hole in it, I suspect it has little value - you might get a few pounds from one of the George IV fans out there. (And yes, these people do exist - I had a German lady follow me on Ebay for years who would bid on anything with George IV on it....)
  7. Yes - looks very much like a Barbarous copy to m and the portrait of Tetricus is likely to be the source. In fact I have this one on Ebay at the moment, which bears quite a lot of similarities.
  8. I didn't know either so I googles it: "Urban Dictionary: High Six https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=High%20Six A high five in which two men with boners touch tips as well." I am not surprised the kid's mum objected!
  9. I think my friend has come to the same conclusion and is leaving that one for someone else.
  10. That is brilliant - thanks! Looks Like I will have to get a copy of Withers - what is the book's full title? (I know there are other Withers books - I have their Trade Tokens book which is excellent.)
  11. I think our friend is in Estonia and his English is not perfect. I suspect he was after knowing the town and/or moneyer...
  12. Thanks - but I don't have Withers! I have Spink and North - is there an equivalent?
  13. Strangely I have had a 2017 Shield in circulation - I think it was the first 2017 50p I picked up. Must have been October last year. Also seen the Newton and two of the Beatrix series - all now tucked away in my album. Still waiting to see the first of the alphabet 10ps in my change!
  14. Thanks both for that - I will mark it up as Henry III Willem on Cant then. Once I have popped my clogs I wont mind if someone else decides I was wrong!
  15. This a long shot I suppose - this broken Shortcross penny was in the same lot as the farthing posted separately. It was fixed between two layers of selotape when I received it, making it completely unrecognisable. I have got the tape off by soaking in surgical spirit and I can now see the king's head on the obverse and what appears to be a hugely double struck reverse. I can make out some letters but not enough to guess at a moneyer. Anyone able to help? I can send full size images if that would help - these have been shrunk to get into the post.
  16. A friend of mine is considering buying this on Ebay. I cannot see anything obvious to say fake, though the obverse is pretty worn. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EDWARD-VII-1903-SILVER-HALFCROWN-KEY-DATE-GOOD-FINE/273336241576?hash=item3fa41c0da8:g:h5cAAOSwr69bLLwF Can anyone else see any problems with it? Has anyone dealt with this seller before?
  17. I think as soon as you mention "Pontefract Siege Piece" in the same paragraph as field_walker you know what the answer is going to be! It is not my area but there do appear to be casting bubbles in the pictures. To add to what Rob has said, these things used to be mega-rare, and now they turn up all the time. To me that can only mean one thing - they are being produced to fill the demand in the market. I would not buy one on Ebay at all - and I would want to have a lot of provenance before I bought from a good auction house.
  18. I picked up this with some other stuff. I can see it is a farthing and from London with the Civitas London on the reverse, and I presume it is Edward I, II or III. Can anyone tell me anything more precise? Thanks,
  19. I doubt we would ever get Rees-Mogg even standing for leadership, despite the scare-mongering of the sandalistas. But I think I would prefer to have the pub dog in charge rather than Corbyn or any of his cronies. Socialism is fine but Marxist Communism is a step too far!
  20. Yes - I was thinking of getting a Russian one as insurance in case Corbyn gets in.
  21. Difficult one that for you being in the US. It may be worth joining one of the UK based Metal detectorist forums - they are turning up quite a lot of low grade hammered coins and you may find someone who is prepared to sell you his spares. Most auction houses sell better grade coins and want good money for them, or throw the low grade stuff in with a lot of other low grade modern coins. On Ebay the bulk lots tend to be such low grade that they are unrecognisable.
  22. Mine - all Mine! I see you also do cider - I am making my own on a regular basis, though brought up to a more traditional wine strength. Very refreshing on a hot day.
  23. Sorry - I don't share my Talisker...
  24. ... and this one doesn't look right to me either. Are the Whisky-goggles clouding my view point? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VICTORIA-HALF-PENNY-1888-GOOD-GRADE/153072636661?hash=item23a3d712f5:g:7eEAAOSwIetbLmHE
