Obviously I am going to have to try this Warren Zevon - I have to admit I had not heard of him before. What genre? P

I don't know about anyone else, but I have to have music on when I am working with my coins. Pink Floyd is my absolute favourite but quite a few other groups and artists figure frequently in my (randomised) playlist. Here are my top twenty, in no particular order (after Pink Floyd): Pink Floyd Tangerine Dream Led Zeppelin Muse Adele Gorillaz King Crimson Mike Oldfield Moody Blues Fleetwood Mac Emerson Lake and Palmer Dire Straits Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel Suzanne Vega The Strawbs The Beautiful South Thin Lizzy Chris Rea Pentangle David Bowie What does everyone else listen to? Modern or Classical?

The one time we have had a listing removed recently was the duplicate Gold 1937 coin. When I reported this I used the "fraudulent listing" option rather than the "restricted items" route. When it is clear that the seller knows he is selling a scam I suggest we use that one - it may get more attention from Ebay.

Coin Weight for Identification please

That sounds right to me - the style and quality seemed too strong for Edward VI. Thanks @Richard2 -
Seems also to have had that magic toning treatment discussed in another thread. Yuck!

Wow thanks @Rob that is great! Much older than it looks. As it is not in my collecting area, I will be looking to sell it on - what sort of value should I put on it? -
OK - I will take the consensus and go back to school! Grotty though it is, it will be in my collection for now as 7+H was not one I had before. (Now in the penny folder.)

Just had a polite thank you note from the genuine seller, which is kind of him.

This one was in a job lot and cost me nothing. Trying out my variety detection skills, I think I get this to be 6 and H - Freeman 67 - am I right? The neck seems to narrow to be Obverse 7 or 8 and the narrow date is the feature of Reverse H... I know it is RANG by Peter's standards, but we have to start somewhere!

I have picked up this one today @UPINSMOKE - not in great condition, but it may be one you need? PM me if you want it.

I have reported to Ebay as a Fraudulent sale and also messaged the genuine seller to let him know what is going on. I hope he takes action and that may resolve the problem.

I had a chat with my local Computer expert and it seems we have Google to blame, not Ebay. All the ad space on Ebay is handled by Google Adsense and Ebay have no control over what appears there. Adsense is the system that detects your browser history and tries to put up ads relevant to you. Often you get caught out clicking on an apparently empty area of screen and trigger the Ad that is still loading to that space - hence a pop-up or redirect to another webpage. Google do very little checking on who rents space through them, so it may be a genuine and innocuous ad, or, in the worst case, a site that is attempting to install malware on your computer. Hence why it is insane to go on the web without good antivirus and anti malware installed. Adguard and similar things will block 90% or more, but nothing is fool proof. Perversely you will get les ads if you use Google Chrome instead of Microsoft IE as your browser - not sure if this is because Chrome is better at detecting malware sites, or if Google is deliberately down-rating the IE experience... It's a jungle out there!

Holy shmoley! I am glad I am not chasing after variations!

Buyer identification
Paddy replied to jasonsewell's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Looks that way to me - certainly the first and third could be "Do" which was a recognised abbreviation for "Ditto" - ie same as above. Middle one is a little less clear, but unless someone was bidding with a very short name, I can't think what else it could be. -
I have so many of the darn things I put them out at 50p each - at least it can attract new collectors that way, and if it p***s off some of the greedy stall holders a bit, so be it!

My understanding is that these bigger coins are really just commemorative or bullion. I will never collect them, but if everyone else is, feel free to include them. (Your spreadsheet might need altering for a "Divide by zero" error though!)

Yes - it is the same fake style that someone was selling on Ebay a couple of weeks ago - he had half a dozen all with different tones, but all the same identifier feature. £8.75 each BIN. (His address was given as a hotel in Mayfair, but his name and Ebay ID was Chinese...)
-
OK - if you insist. 25p Crowns - 4 £5 Crowns - 26 Anymore than that I do not care!

There has been an interesting thread in the Members area regarding individual pre-decimal collections as a percentage of my collection. It was suggested there might be interest in a similar thread for decimal coins, so here is my starting list. Counts must be for individual different coins - no scores for duplicates and spares. As many people have decimal coins in year sets, I have listed those separately as I generally have both. Precious metal proof coins do not count and all coins must be British mainland coins - no scores for Channel Island, IOM, Gibraltar etc.I have left out the £5 coins, but if people feel they should be included I can add them in. (I have stopped collecting them as I am fed up with the Royal Mint on these!) If you post your figures I hope @Stuntman will do one of his magic spreadsheets... Half P - 14 Penny - 48 Two Pence - 45 Five Pence - 50 Ten Pence - 51 Twenty Pence - 43 Fifty Pence - 101 One Pound - 46 Two Pound - 61 BU Sets - 32 Proof sets - 41 (Some standard, some executive) I'm sure lots of people will beat those! (I am NOT planning on photographing all of these!)

You will be very welcome! PM me when you think you have a day and we can sort out the details.

The reprint of Freeman also lists an 1873 8+I and an 8 and Draycott C# in the Appendix IV extras...

Not sure if anyone else has been following this thread over on CT? Chap bought a job lot of silver "foreign" coins at under scrap and found this in the lot! Ebay item was https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-oz-Collection-of-Foreign-Coins-All-90-or-Pure-Silver-Good-to-UNC-103LZ/142734208312?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 so I think this is a true story. Grrrr!

I have another small bunch of British Farthings, brass threepences - also a silver threepence and two silver sixpences - on Ebay finishing tonight (Sunday). I will probably post another bunch to start tonight and finish next Sunday. See: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/pbowen24/m.html?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEFSXS%3AMESOI&_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2654
