Politisions are politisions because of their own self inerests. Don't think because the politisions for their own self interests are panicing and want the UK to stay whole that the people give a hoot. If Scotland really want to seperate, the English should be given a vote. Turnout would be very low but it would be a land slide result.

I like to think that the average Englishman doesn't give a tinkers dam either way, I know I don't. I was hoping that I could just sit on the sideline and throw in the occassional bone to see the fur fly. What has dissapointed me is how mild mannered this discussion has been. Probably because the benefits, perceived or otherwise, are irrelevant in the overall scheme of things. A bit like the Irish question. A unified Ireland would still be subservient to Brussels. The right to self-determine what exactly? Any right a country may have to set its own course and live or die by its decisions will be far outweighed by the potential for the governing bodies higher up the food chain to bu**er things up. Brussels will determine Scotland's future whether in the EU or outside it, just as it currently does. This flies in the face of the whole UKIP mantra. Who controls things, the politisions in Westminster or the politisions in Brussels, at the end of the day it makes no difference to the man on the street. At the end of the day they are still politisions.

Well I'm at Grading Level II for what it's worth. So that's about 5 weeks now.

I use 7 at work and have XP at home plus Vista on a laptop I rarely use. I just bought my mother a laptop with 8. WTF, might be good on a phone or tablet but straight from the box it's incomprehensible.

There's a lot of sense in that, scott. The 1952 sixpence is not rare in any sense of the word, but its mintage is 1/13 of the next scarcest (1938) and a tiny fraction of the commonest (1948), so it's always going to be regarded as a genuine 'key' date. The whole problem with this is that key dates have been taken from change since coin collecting begun. The key dates are probably the most common coins around.

Perhaps we should just send the army in and hold a flash referendum.

Apparently the RM is worried about the number of fakes in circulation. I don't see how this makes any difference, if the royal mint can make them so can anybody else. There's nothing magic about the presses they use.

An opportunity to blow off some old machinery to save some money. I guess the 2017 £ has about the same buying power as the 1967 3d as well.

I can't imagine there will be much US interest until they are slabbed.

Is that a serious offer. I've been looking to get my 1937 proof crown reslabbed as a one off. It originally came out of a PCGS slab but I guess an NGC slab would do the trick.

Produced for collectors? Then how do you account for the 60/59 overdate? My view is that the 1860 issues were done very briefly to meet demand in the event of the bronze conversion running into a few delays. Though that only makes sense completely if the 1859 dies had been used up due to the anticipated changeover. Wouldn't they have just knocked out a few more 59s even if it was just into 1860? To me changing dies would occur at the end of a run ie 60/61 not at the beginning of a run. So the 59 dies would be use in 60/61 to finish a run and save going to the 61 dies.

Sorry, ever the contrarian, but I don't necessarily. I usually put them date up, but even that relies on the customer having binocular vision - very unlikely. Many are as blind as a bat! Ah, but you are a collector, you realise the the date is important. Many of the dealers at the Midland's show head up with the coin in a flip and the label underneath. When there's a scrum at the table I often can't be bothered to ask.

Slightly off topic but why do dealer at shows display their coins observe up, most annoying.

I didn't have any of this when I received an empty envelope. Mind you there was an embossed coin beside the tear in the envelope. After much abuse from the seller ebay just returned my money.
