  1. A bit like the Irish punt, was worth about 90p but you only ever got 1:1 if you spent an English pound over there.
  2. That probably also accounts for the lack of rim dings on the right hand coin.
  3. Copper clad with the cladding missing?
  4. I hear that they will now not be able to keep using the Pound. I guess the Scots will now have to divy up that hoard they found recently.
  5. As I said earlier as English I'm easy either way. I do think though if there is a break it should be a complete break, non of this Salmon's want his cake and eat it. It should be a complete break, laws, finances, security the lot. In one way I would like to see the No win just to see Salmon fall on his face. To me he comes over far too smarmy for my liking, I guess it's the politician shining through.
  6. I'm not bothered either way, we don't need Scotland anymore, we've got Poland now. Need a big infrastructure project to boost the economy, refurbish Hadians Wall, that'll keep the Pols busy for a little while.
  7. I preferred Suzuki. I sent some of my mis-spent youth on a GT750.
  8. Keep the second and dip it problem solved, simples
  9. What like Heritage pushing the prices still higher.
  10. I got my VIP proof from RAS also. I think you really need the coin out of the slab to be completely sure. You can't feel the sharp edges through a slab. A few years ago I bought a 1937 crown slabbed as PR67 under the impression it was a VIP, the auction house suggested that it was at the time. To look at it is a wonderous thing, but out of the slab it's obviuos that it's not a VIP. I wish I could get it back into a slab but PCGS don't make it easy to do one offs.
  11. That coin is the 2013 Birth of Prince George proof 5 pound. That coin cost $130 at issue, plus $30-40 for submission/grading. While I still don't think it's worth the $329 asking price, it's a far cry from $450 for a coin that can be had for $30. Also, that "import fees" part of eBay is a complete farce. The shipping in the US is free from that seller, and eBay is likely making a killing on these types of coins when they add this "import charge" to them. This (among other reasons) is why I never sell on eBay outside the 50 US states. You are correct, i concede that one, i must get Glasses. On the Import tax subject, apparently the seller must oot into it, but i said before that ebay or someone is making Profit from this practise and really something should be done about it because they are asking for far more money in Import tax than the Import tax that would be due The other problem about it is that it's my opinion that many US sellers quite like it because it deters oversea bids.
  12. I'm not seeing any Likes with Firefox, maybe I'm not looking in the correct place.
  13. It may be a common coin raw but the number slabbed will be limited so if you only buy slabs you are pretty limited and a high grade is going to cost.
  14. He must be on crack cocaine if he thinks he's sold 105 of those at that price....... NUMPTY. How does he fiddle the stats to say this many have been sold at that price? There has to be a flaw somewhere within ebay. Although looking at his negatives i would' bother purchasing anything from the seller even if he had something i wanted. A bit like the coin seller centiles, he has something now and again but you just can't Trust it He no longer ships to the UK so that save's us a lot of hassle
  15. The reason you got an immediate reply was because your offer was within the threshold set by the seller, so ebay sent an auto accept.
  16. I heard that 40 is the new 30, Happy birthday to you both.
  17. That's a nice enough halfpenny. Not spectacular by any means, but certainly nice, especially at the right price A few small green spots on the reverse, I hope they are stable.
  18. I'm waiting for the insurance companies to start kicking up, As you increase the retirement age more and more people will be dying in employment, it's going to cost them a fortune.
  19. I think you may be right about this, and it could be thanks to the humble hobby of philately... coins were always collected for their beauty and historic value, whereas stamps were always prone to the odd printer error. So stamp 'misprints' were eagerly sought after for the rarities they were and I suppose that attitude filtered through into numismatics too? It definitely does seem recent though - I can't remember that such things were regarded as being of particular interest in the late 60s. I think it has to be a celebrated error to get any interest. You often see error coins on ebay that seem to attract very little interest.
  20. For me, I really like the leather box and I guess I would be prepared to pay £20 or £30 to buy one if I have a set in cardboard box. (Having said that, I do worry about the ribbons used to lift out the coins and the way they can tone the coins). I think sets sell for pretty much the same money regardless the type of box. In fact, I think one might even get more money by separating a set and selling the coins individually. I think my set is in the leather case, well they were before I put them into my cabinet. I'll have to go up into the loft and look it out, I have a bag with all the cases in somewhere. If mine were in the cardboard case I'd jump at an upgrade for £20-30. I think £50 would be closer.
  21. Dave's favourite seller! (That mat's been DIPPED). And you can get them from here for £12 cheaper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/271321735117?hlpht=true&ops=true&viphx=1&lpid=95&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=95&ff19=0 My mistake £22 cheaper.
  22. There's been a couple come up recently, one at London coins which went for about £300 and Bucks Coin had one on ebay a week or two ago which went very cheap. Those prices are a bit of a surprise for something that is supposed to be so rare.
  23. I regularly get spoof paypal emails. I 've had the skype several times and lost count of the "your account has been limited" etc.
