A collectable coin is generally one that has seen less than ten years in circulation that would leave it in Nvf grade or so , it also depends on the metal and the size of the coin as well - smaller coins circulate less so are less worn .
In general most collections out there consist of average circulated coins , the exceptions or collections from fanatics (like you will find in this forum)
Remember most collections consist of coins from circulation or coins brought back as momentoes by servicemen in the last war and just after - there are plenty quite common foreign coins as well as english .
After a quick look I spotted nothing rare in the uk coins , quite a bit of the collection is scrap silver as its such low grade , there are a few collectable coins in there as well
I really will have to try the artists paintbrush thing , I prefer acetone and will leave petrol to others.
The first thing I do when I add a coin to my collection is give it a wipe with toilet paper and acetone , I find surprisingly, that very few dealers use it and it always improves most everything I buy .
Toothpicks are great for dirt as well
Related , anyone going to see the new Queen film?
Sounds a bit sanitised and nicey , nicey to me , We want the sex and drugs and rock and roll , I bet kenny everett is not in it as well (they were great friends ) seems the band got their way in turning him into a weird sort of saint .
Still I will give it a go
Funny enough in the early eighties I also remember coming across quite a few proof coins broken out of proof sets in circulation , they were hard times those thatcher years
Betting shop customers , some , tend to be the ones that will look through the bottom of a drawer and find "interesting" coins that have been hidden away to get their "fix"
Urban Dictionary: eye candy
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=eye candy
Something purely aesthetically pleasing, that is, pleasing to the senses. Can be a person, a film, a sunset, a flower, or anything else you can see.
By eye candy I mean the Elizabethan and Mary gold and the many superb other coins of the stuarts and the commonwealth.
It was not the sole reason for going, the afternoon was spent at kensington palace (was a bit dissapointed) and a lovely walk in hyde park (Superb)
My first choice was buckingham palace but I wrote to prince philip asking if he would invite me for tea and never got an answer
Got only one coin very pleased with it - interesting new location with a great view over the thames .
Lots of dealers from abroad who you normally never see and some lovely eye candy on many stalls
