  1. Please do! Be glad to give an opinion on any, as would many of us. I for one don't know much/anything about world coins however ... Your photos will be better if taken with the coins out of the flips Overall GF on your 1915 halfcrown imo (from those pics)
  2. Hi Weaver Good thread! I collect predominantly milled English silver types, with sidelines in Conder tokens and broad copper and bronze type examples, I've been branching back as far as Tudor hammered a little, and starting to dabble in proofs too. Excellent advice given above, they key distinction will be that between buying English coins because you like them, or because they interest you, as opposed to buying for investment. EBay or a Facebook Group for world coin collectors may be the best way of selling the world coins you do not want. Have fun out there and ask anything you like on here (with pictures) before making big buying decisions
  3. You're spot on with that Peter, they are nice but not quite nice enough, there are better out there and I won't be wanting to upgrade. Thanks very much for all your thoughts gents Back they go (I think!)
  4. The RM and banks are no longer taking these back at FV, this whole con has now been exposed and undermined imo Chris has a Facebook Group devoted to the topic, ' Pay your court debt/fines in £20, £50 and £100 coins NOW '
  5. I hope you will forgive my novice-like question on these - I am relatively new to proofs, only having started taking an interest over the last year, and the literature I have does not seem to give much detail about them, Questions seem to arise on this Forum frequently regarding is it or is it not a proof, are any perceived hairlines from the dies or post-mint, and what is the difference (if any) between Specimen and Proof. So I have on approval this 1902 matching Matt Proof set, which I like. I would assess the coins as 'virtually as struck ((but not fully FDC), problem-free, and matt proof'. I am running it past you guys as part of due diligence. They come with a matching Maundy set and the original box, which I have not pictured. Any input very gratefully received what are your thoughts @VickySilver?
  6. This will be the song I will best remember Keith Emerson for
  7. You are the king of bargain low grade varieties Scott, without a doubt!
  8. 1788 Halfpenny Worcester Visit of George III August 6-8 W. A. & CO. D&H 33 Not actually sure if it is a halfpenny, or what the metal is, does anyone know? Acquired from our very own CHP
  9. Lots of auctions in London (as you might expect)! Spink, St James, DNW, London Coins Auctions (normally in Bracknell), Croydon, Baldwins, there are others I'm sure!
  10. Beautiful eyelashes on the king there!
  11. You have some eye-wateringly beautiful halfpennies Rob!
  12. And what do we have here? Some kind of pattern in gilt bronze?
  13. What date would that be roughly? (the Viccy decimal)
  14. Odds are roughly 3/1 ON that we will vote to stay in according to the bookies. Trump is about 3/1 AGAINST to be next US president (still scary though)
  15. I found Question Time last week a particularly good one. The 'In' lobby in particular would rather talk about the dangers of leaving rather than the benefits from staying in (obviously the 'Out' lobby wouldn't do that but you know what I mean!) Neither side is able to back up their arguments with sound statistics, as there are just too many unknowns. Undecided at present. Being out but with trade agreements seems to be working well for the likes of Norway though.
  16. Such a shame, what were people thinking!
  17. I so hope that these days all coin albums are PVC-free! I'm sure anything from Chris will certainly be! And I would throw the old album away!
  18. Blimey,nice haul Jerry!
  19. Eagerly awaiting accounts of carnage, key wins, near misses, etc etc
  20. Thanks Pete. By 'known' I meant is it recorded in any publications, I don't have anything that covers copper varieties
  21. Is this a 'known' variety? Top coin is a standard coin, the one below is recorded in the CGS population database as "5's in date appear open" (they have recorded 3 such examples)
  22. lol I couldn't resist!
  23. And the fact that these are widely copied, no weight or provenance was offered, and less than 1000 were genuinely minted
