  1. I agree with Stuntman, the grade seems ok, don't know the price, eye appeal is in the eye of the beholder. You get flecking in early milled silver of this period (due to metal composition) but not normally just in one place. Check with the dealer/seller that you are buying 'on approval', i.e. you need to see it in hand and will return for full no quibble refund if you are not happy, and that they are happy with that. For me, I just want a decent LIMA George II halfcrown, not both a 1745 (with the U instead of V in GEORGIUS, which I'm guessing was in error), and a 1746, just the one - this is my best so far - a few years ago these could be bought in a high grade for a fraction of what they go for now, wish I collected seriously 10-30 years ago! But there we are, still fantastic examples are available of many coins at good prices if you do your research and show patience
  2. Amusing that they should choose to quote from a forum called 'predecimal' about a 2009 50p!
  3. Thanks Rob, a perfect example of where my grading would let me down when buying or selling such an example. I think I got lucky with this one!
  4. Only EF for me, but that will do for a variety low-tide type example
  5. Be careful with the 1902 3d's, they could be Maundy and could be proofs that you are viewing, which may or may not tick your boxes! Maundy Matt Proof 3d (I think!)
  6. Nice clean example. This is the 2nd bust which is perhaps worth 50% more than the 1st bust ceteris pariba. I'd go "approaching GVF" for grade.
  7. I echo some of the opinions above. I would try and find better grade/eye appeal, and if plumping for this one would definitely not pay aEF money for it
  8. I have one on sale which I am confident is GVF or better , others may disagree of course!
  9. Great stuff Gary!
  10. FDC?
  11. I will mainly remember him for his work with King Crimson
  12. Looks like you may have done well there then Scott!
  13. And I got this one of one of my favourite towns. Lots of lustre and proof-like fields, hard to photograph ... Edge: "PAYABLE AT DALLYS CHICHESTER X X X X "
  14. And one for @Peter Edge: "GOD SAVE THE KING AND CONSTITUTION X X" I'll see if I can take clearer pics Edit - better pics (hopefully)
  15. New arrival. All sorts going on with this, Halfpenney and Payble errors, A over V or inverted A in Halfpenney. Plain edge. Seller's pics, my own pending Edit: My pics
  16. I have been told that the official boxes (for 1902 for example) containing proof sets actually have "Specimen Coins" written on the top of the box - as if back then they used the terms 'proof' and 'specimen' interchangeably
  17. Not my best, but lovely and interesting all the same
  18. They are difficult that's for sure. How would people rate this low tide halfpenny?
  19. David at ABC has some new stock, well worth a visit ,, http://www.abccoinsandtokens.com/ I have cherry-picked four, including a Suffolk with you in mind Peter and my first Croydon Tea Rooms (my home town)
  20. Nothing apparent to me either, looks absolutely fine ok from those pics. I am going to theorise / speculate - and that is all it is - I have heard there is normally only 1 grader for the US TPGs, and they bang out many per hour. Perhaps the grader on this occasion was not used to that particular portrait of George (which I think is unique to that series) and was less than diligent? If you want it re-slabbed, LCGS would do so without issue I imagine, as they are now owned by the auctioneers ...
  21. Demand and supply all the way. Supply is either well-known or at least fairly fixed, until a new hoard is found. Demand is subject to all sorts of factors, some of which are referred to by earlier posters. Sometimes the 'going rate' for the 'only known example' of a particular coin can be less than similar examples of which there are several known examples. I often think ALL wreath crowns are way too cheap (except 1934 perhaps), given the mintages - the demand must not be there, whatever the reason
