    A lot of 1887 proofs have a slightly purple hue, but all coins tone differently depending how they have been stored. Most proofs can be identified by the reflective fields, well defined rims and edge and sharply defined edge milling. If you can post a decent picture, you'll get an answer.

    As I've said before, eBay behaves more like an organised crime group than a business.

    It is a fake. In addition to only looking similar to a crown, it has a reeded edge.

    If you use automatic white balance, then the camera will make its own determination of which setting to use. If you can change it, choose whichever fixed white balance setting gives you the most realistic picture and then stick to that. Upper tier digital cameras allow you to calibrate the white balance for your exact lighting.

    It's the code that is specified by the exporter that tells the importer what is contained in the package and thus what rate to charge. It should be on the Fedex documentation visible on the outside of the package.

    There were a number of them that appeared about 5 years ago. They all have the same bag marks and a cud on the n of tenth. If you search here for 1864 and florin you'll find all the previous discussion.

    Not wishing to continue the discussion but it should be remembered that more pits closed under Harold Wilson (1964-1970) than under Margaret Thatcher (1979-1990).

    Nice close up. Interesting that the the diagonal line above and below the crossbar appear to be not quite on the same alignment.
