  1. well peck the thought had run through my mind, last year london had one for sale with an estimate of £500-600, it was apparently very scratched with no mention of that in the london catalogue.....he reckoned on it being worth maybe £300, it was so scratched it hammered at £1000 plus premium/vat the pics look really good!!!.
  2. yes for ever maybe not if its scored..... all questions ive asked myself, many times over hence my dillema
  3. never mind rainbow toning.... someone's tango'd mr pies
  4. roman 1 proof.......a local coin dealer viewed it for me and said it wasnt as good as pics and had a score on the obverse.....from the pics it looks the mutz nutz.....i was going to push the boat out, but now not so sure what to do.
  5. welcome matty. for 1 read most
  6. and azda is jockinese for..........Dave a nice idea henrik, but its much easier to come here for coin info, and get advice from very knowledgable people on the subject.

  8. so it was you that broke it then......coinery overload
  9. oh yes.......naughty naughty.........does ebay rules allow this??????
  10. im not sure......the purple or the black set? although £1-50 is a lot of money for clothes with oh sooo many holes in it:D item ended...........maybe he got his £2100 he wanted
  11. excuse my ignorance on Scottish geography, but im wondering if a certain assylum has been relocated from dundee to ayr.....maybe hes started up again with a new account, a feedback score of just 2 and attempting to sell an item for £1500 im also wondering if the very nice Mr Gouby's website is copyrighted?
  12. no need to take my word for it..... heres an article on die numbers....http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/dieno.html the number of the particular die used is above the date (usually) and for some coins can run to over 100....see the article. and heres a link within that article that shows a die number,http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/pics/qv/6d/dn77r.jpg A die pairing is the relationship between obverse die and reverse die and its given a number in the series, such as 1+a or 1+b or 2+a and so on, the number being the obverse die used and the letter being the reverse die used.
  13. where did you buy it....from the bay?
  14. ah mr divemaster.....me thinks you mean die pairings..... die numbers were used in the victorian times just above the date on the reverses of coins, this was done to assess wear on the dies.....mostly during the 1860's i think.....
  15. at that mag, can you hold it still?...
  16. it ran through my mind too.... im amazed though.....for a mintage of less than .5 million that there are sooo many varities
  17. wow, i thought those days were long past
  18. yes i think that too for other coins, hair ribbon details and curls in the hair etc etc etc.....its a minefield for us learners........but when you do learn something die numbers i can cope with, although with aging eye site, a glass is essential now
  19. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120987052366;jsessionid=4808E8FFE400C7781B5FCC01A9F9C3B1?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D120987052366%26_rdc%3D1
  20. good to hear that.....
  21. Hiya. Victorian sixpences were struck with a 180 degree rotation up to 1887. the 1887 coins can have either rotation depending if their young head (180) or the 2 tpes of jubilee bust which have no rotation. Spinks quote £10 for a fine example, a photo would be needed to judge grade........but that hole
  22. yes intellectual copyright applies to images taken by the author of material in his possesion.....however as much as intellectual copyright exists it can be controlled by corporate copyright. an example of this is when i photograph at premier league football matches, i own the intellectual copyright of the images i capture but am governed by the rules of the premier league, an example being the number of images i can post on my personal website without having to pay for a licence. the same applies to buildings, whilst i can capture images for example on national trust land and own the intellectual copyright of those images, what i can do with those images is controlled by the national trust and what licence i may have to pay them, for earning monies from their property. it is also possible to have your intellectual copyright removed in certain circumstances, such as under the terrorism laws if you were photographing a sensative subject such as a military installation, a government office block on the north bank of the thames!!!...... youre question though is clear cut......you owned the coin, you own the intellectual copyright to the image you captured. you can publish.
  23. thanks Rob, that clears that up.....lots of useful info there too. yes Dave its a roman 1 proof im after....but that popped up in an ebay search and it just didnt look right. thanks all for helping. ski
  24. additionally.....all the samples were stated as such in the ticket...the above coin isnt ticketed as a sample....all the samples were of low value coins given away as freebies, a 1887 double florin arabic 1 proof doesnt really fall into this catagory. ski
  25. hi Rob....the link youve provided is for the samples that ngc distributed to collectors to arouse interest in the slabbing concept. the ebay example i posted isnt for a sample but a coin slabbed for commercial purposes. all just samples that ngc gave away at shows.....proving the concept. ski
