  1. Matteo, i can see what Nordle means, by cleaning, what would the precious owner clean it with? Did you buy from a reputable source, the surface of the OBV does't look great, but as with Nordle i'm no expert on foreign coins, just things that look suspect. Could this have been a shipwrecked coin?
  2. Behind every great man lies an even better woman, I have no doubt she was the Rock of the family. It's nice that you deem us worthy enough to share this turbulent time in your life, God bless Peter, I'm sure she'll be forever watching over you and the family.
  3. I'd rather wait for a decent picture.
  4. Oooooooh must actually open my coin news and read it
  5. Grading and authentication are two different entities entirely. We could therefor ask how American companies authenticate a coin, given the fact they have actually slabbed British coins which were fakes. I know which I would prefer. The BNTA also have a list of fakes on their website, as I'm not a member of the BNTA I cannot tell how it operates and again you'd have to ask how they determine a fake from a genuine coin. CGS would be the only place to send a British coin for authenticity issues in this case.
  6. It will cost £30, but will be worth the outlay if it is genuine, either way you'll find out if it's the real deal or not
  7. This would be the thread to throw up a picture Vicky
  8. I agree with Peter' comment above about sending it for authentication, here's the link to CGS http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/?page=home
  9. Not sure if the cropped version will help, but here we go
  10. Happy birthday Christoph, have a good day and don't work too hard
  11. All the talk of 1860/59 got me thinking, how rare is just a normal 1860, there seems to be more over 59 just lately and not a peep on a straight 60
  12. What I find strange is the comment "if they find the variety in Krause" Krause is An American book which don't list a lot of British varieties, shouldn't they be using major British catalogues as well, or is it the case if it's not listed in an American book it simply doesn't exist in their eyes?
  13. Whether PCGS are good enough to recognise the variety is another ball game
  14. As with Nordles post we get hit with anything outside the EU with charges and we're allowed up to 22, everything depends on how it's packages. For instance if a coin is sent in an evelope (suitably protected of course) then German customs tend not to open it as it looks like a letter, if it's packaged in a box then it will be opened and checked
  15. A 1918KN Penny here from someone calling themselves Northampton-coins. I wonder how he stays in business If this is the sort of grading he uses throughout his coin business. 361256131399 Oh and it's rare apparently, but Check out his grade compared to the actual grade. I'm confused

    Hi all !

And a welcome Matteo from me.
  17. I actually blocked someone for bidding 34 times at £1 increment, I thought he was taking the piss and trying to ruin my auction. As you can tell, i'm not a fan of the small increment bidding
  18. Peter, really sorry to hear this news, I know you loved Mrs Peter very much. A sad day even for us who only knew her through your life stories on the forum. Hang in there buddy
  19. If it's in eBay for £3500 there will be 10% fees. His price is obviously reflecting the additional 10%
  20. Eye appeal is a factor that any book cannot price, only to someone with good judgement. You're heading in the right direction
  21. And a welcome Dan from me. Halfpennies As you say Are a little undervalued and you can pick up some nice Victoria bun heads in high grade for £100. As always though, feel free to ask a question If you Are unsure about a purchase or otherwise, just don't overstretch yourself buying a coin. Happy collecting
  22. I would also get a copy of the Michael Gouby Book on the same subject, ist has been updated since the Freeman book, i don't know If Mr Gouby still has any avaliable, but its definately one worth buying If you intend to collect Pennies.
  23. The REV is a bit ropey. In reference to the original coin I posted about, I think the Baldwins price is about where it should be, His £880 price tag is a bit silly, a better one went through Spink in 2013 for £550 hammer
  24. And he also uses the descriptions, he used the previous Spink sale milled 6d I was interested in and the Eddie VI 6d from the slaney sale. He could at least take his own pictures.
