  1. I also thought The Sov looked a bit bright and thought it was cleaned. The descriptions of coins are very important along with HI-res pictures, what would happen if someone bought The Sov and it turned out to be cleaned, can it or any other coin be returned without fuss? As we know, most coin houses (if there's a problem with a coin that was previously unseen) would take it back, but As we know with ebay people can take a different angled pictured to make it Look a little better than it is in Hand
  2. Are catwiki a Dutch company? Do they hold the coins like an auction house does or is it like eBay where the owner is selling them? Perhaps people are worried that on a new platform things can go pear shaped, such as you buying the coin and it doesn't make an appearance after paying out X, i'm not saying this is the problem, more thinking about the possibilities of why the bidding is slack. There's also the big whale that is eBay where people are more used to, breaking into a marketshare like they have will take a lot of time IMO. Just looked at the 1817 Geo III Halfcrown, the bid increment is 5 euros a pop, seems a little higher than the eBay increment at the low end, from 29 euros the next step 34 euros, can't quite remember but doesn't eBay start the 5 increment after £50?
  3. Welcome to the forum
  4. As you said coinkat, grading is always subjective, but in order to wind this up (from my side anyway) eye appeal is always in my mind when deciding to buy a coin or not, from both of the 1854 shillings i'd buy mine all day long and even if i wanted to buy another i still wouldn't go for the other as in my own opinion it doesn't look as good., maybe i've been spoilt, but as i mentioned previously on here, eye appeal is apparently one of the criteria used by TPGs when grading and therefor cannot see how both could arrive at MS62
  5. PCGS MS66 would equate to a CGS 88 grade, MS65 would be CGS 85-88 grade range, thats according to the CGS crossover grading table which you can find on the londoncoins website
  6. This one looks wrong also http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ancient-European-Anglo-Saxon-Silver-Coin-Penny-of-Ethelred-II-Vikings-FREE-SHIP-/122020796986?hash=item1c69019a3a:g:YssAAOSwc1FXZxPt
  7. it seems whatever you linked Seuk has been taken down from eBay or the link isn't working
  8. And the REV of mine
  9. So to compare, here is another 1854 graded the same as my MS62, apparently eye appeal is one of the criteria of grading, i paid less for mine but in my opinion the one i have looks far superior, perhaps a biased opinion, but open to opinions
  10. Do you have hammered coins @brg5658 this is where in my opinion the inconsistencies occur, i don't think NGC quite have the grasp of these as per the link i posted above, i've seen extremely high grades in hammered coinage but for the life of me cannot get past the fact that hammered coins can't ever be UNC because of the crudeness of striking. I've just had 3 done at PCGS (not hammered) and had MS65, PF66 and MS63, (first 2 finest known) although the MS65 i thought may have been better but i'm not going to complain about it, i wanted to compare the 65 against the NGC 65s of which there are 3 with none finer but cannot find them so if you can find and anything it would be good to compare.
  11. We have a nice band saw at work, cuts through plastic like butter, i remove 3 sides to ensure no problems with shattering plastic going everywhere
  12. Here is my VF Shilling
  13. Ahhhhh you mean Florens Desbans, met her in Munich, she was a cutie
  14. Perhaps an slight over exaggeration, the meaning of which i meant as above that some of NGC grading is really poor. So for instance, an AU grade This is what i mean, as i said above, if you want a good grade then send to NGC, if consistency in grade, then send to PCGS http://www.ma-shops.com/worldmoneyshop/item.php5?id=310&lang=en
  15. Charles I also used the plumes above shield to denote Welsh silver
  16. Surely he's selling far too many fakes and has far too much feedback to be ignorant in the fact that he's actually dealing in fakes instead of being oblivious to buying/sourcing them himself which in turn would be a crime knowingly selling these as genuine.... In Germany you can't plead ignorant, you must be informed as to whether you're committing a crime or not, such as selling a fake handbag as genuine such as Hermes, it doesn't matter whether you bought as genuine, if it's fake then you cannot resell as genuine.... As someone in a previous post pointed out, eBay don't care about what he's selling and how often he's reported, as long as they get their money that's what matters to them
  17. One other thing that i would add is that NGC are grade happy and many of their slabbed coins in MS grade would be more a VF to us, PCGS are a little more stricter and consistent, so if you are looking for high grade then send to NGC
  18. Ah, she was at the Midland, so a captive audience and in a crowd, now if it had a been a phone call or email
  19. Bill would be an excellent choice, overhauling the staff should be his priority
  20. When i think of Semra and her telephone/email manners i usually think of a pitbull chewing a wasp, god knows how she got into customer services
  21. Turnaround times Are about 6 weeks As they ship to The USA for grading. PCGS has an office in Paris where they do grading weeks, which starts tomorrow
  22. oh geezus, have fun with that
  23. Not mine, but thought it was so well struck I had to add it here
