  1. The word swastika is an ancient Sanskrit word (svastikah) which roughly transltes to good luck or well being. Since its use by the Nazi party, its original meaning has pretty much faded into the distance and more often than not it is looked at as being a racist symbol, quite the opposite of its original meaning pre 1930's. Some take the shape as being 4x letter L's. Love, Luck, Life and Light. Good info just.me, thanks. You learn something everyday here
  2. I was actually thinking it was a decent example apart from the clipping, its been graded as EF (American) and were looking for top Geld, hence the reason i asked before plunging or not, so i'll hold fire.
  3. I understood the Name swastika to be associated with the nazis, i'm sure the symbol was'nt always known as swastika?
  4. Ok Rob, thanks for the info.
  5. You'd need something bigger to engrave on coinery, do you have a baseball bat handy? Sorry Debbie, i had to lol
  6. Does clipping of a hammered coin detract from a hammered coins desirabiltiy as i'm thinking of buying this and not seen one quite as good, perhaps you have.
  7. I thought Hitler etc were just dictators of countries and not exactly politicians
  8. Religion and Politics, 2 of the main reasons of war throughout the ages
  9. One for Debbie perhaps, although she may need to open the purse a little wider or raid the husbands pockets when he's asleep http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1671-Charles-II-SILVER-Crown-Unique-LOVE-Token-LARGE-COIN-/320903405878?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab7556136
  10. A very honest answer and i wiuld have said the same thing. What riles me about America is that they finaned the Afghanistan war in the 80s against the Russians but are more than annoyed when the same wespons are used against them and i'm more than sure they've played their part in the Arab uprisings from last year.
  11. You should be able to knock him down to £130-140K. Oooooh change to its very nice though
  12. His Cromwell 50 shilling is partucularly cheap at only £175,000, nice coin though, One to drool over for a while. He Stands to make 20,000 profit if he sells the coin Richard started the topic with at the selling price. Nice job if you have the cash
  13. There's 2 of them there, must be getting common
  14. Steve if I had that sort of spare cash lying around I would probably spend £42k on wine, women and gambling, then just waste the £500 that was left over And waste the rest on wine and women

  19. Rlc35 is another
  20. I was talking in general about the 05 shilling, i'd heard of altered dates on the shilling, but whats worrying is that John mentioned that the person who passed it to him had it 10 years.
  21. Very, in high grade, along with the 05 Halfcrown which is also faked in abundance. Whats more worrying is that John mentioned that the shilling was in someones collection for 10 years and he thought for all those 10 years it was genuine. We all assumed the Chinese has been at this for 4 or 5 years, but who knows where this one has come from. Did the seller tell you John?
  22. I've maybe seen that before, but what a gem! Is that yours Derek? No, it was sold on e-bay a few years back, I did bid for it but unsurprisingly it went out of reach. Another one which got away was a 1940 penny re-cut with a swastika instead of the union jack. Someone with a time viewer that could look 70 years ahead. I believe the swastika was a good luck symbol before it was adopted by the Nazis. I seem to remember it being used by the National Savings Bank pre war. I have a worcester salt token with a swastika for good luck Its not actually a Swastika, the leg of the Swastika points at the 180 degree, this has the flat at 180 degree. This is the swastika, or Hakenkreuz as it's called in German, distinctly different in use.
  23. Ok, just read a little bit on this. It seems letters have been sent to 32,500 people who buy on ebay to sell on at a profit on ebay. eBay Traders in HMRC Tax Spotlight HMRC’s ongoing crackdown on tax dodgers is targeting regular eBay traders and those who buy items to sell them on at a profit. If you are a regular eBay trader and haven’t been declaring your income it may lead to a very unpleasant surprise. It is believed that HMRC have written to 32,500 people who haven’t paid all the tax they owe. From May 3rd letters should land on doormats which will allow eBay traders the chance to pay up now and benefit from reduced penalties. If sellers fail to come forward and HMRC has evidence they have not paid the right amount of tax, they will be hit with a much higher tax penalty and could face potential criminal proceedings. Those who fail to come forward by the 14th June deadline outlined in the letter face a penalty of between 40% and 100% of the tax due, as opposed to just 10% or 20% if they put things right now. eBay traders are the latest group to be targeted by HMRC, which has previously had in its sights plumbers, doctors, dentists, home tutors, market stall holders, car sales people and those with money offshore. Marian Wilson, head of HMRC Campaigns, said: “This campaign is part of a wider HMRC initiative to provide support and guidance to the public on tax evasion and is aimed at people using online marketplaces to buy and sell goods as a trade or business and who fail to pay the tax owed.
  24. Final value fees on coins is 10% plus PP fees 3.5% This will no doubt rise when people stop listing shortly. Maybe this is the reason Mr X has stopped listing on his eBay name to.
  25. Nothing here either
