Toning Madness Lives!

Funnily enough i bought a few Morgans in auction last week, they were only described as "Morgan Dollars" no mention of mintmarks but they did say all were UNC. They arrived today and their grades were pretty spot on and i was fairly happy when i checked and found an 1878CC 1879S 1881S 1882 Oand the last one is just 1882 -
Welcome to the forum Fletch. Many people ask the same question as you "what should i collect" Its down to the individual and personal choice. Take a look through the thread "coin aquisition of the week" there is over 200 Pages of purchased coins showcased there and maybe 1 or 2 pictures will tweak an interest. As regards to the decimal, well i just recently sold (on fleabay) a 1983 Piedfort proof £1 which is obviously the first £1 coin minted, i don't know if the proofs interest you but there's mamy of those out there. I think the earlier ones but not counting the 1983 are fairly cheap in proof.

Think i'll buy me some bullion Morgans and experiment and see what colours i can come up with. First one will be called the toilet tone, it will probably be a chocolate Brown coloured type thing unless i have a vindaloo the night before -
I don't know how this could happen because their turnaround is 90 days and more than enough time to make sure the coin is Positionen correctly in the slab at least

If you intend on selling it in the near future then keep it slabned, if not , then Crack it open but keep the ticket

Ebay Item Came In Empty Package
azda replied to rpeddie's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Should'nt it State the weight on the Label if its a signed for packet? Have you contacted the ebayer? -
Yep, the Württenberg (20 Mark) looks to be good high grade. The Sachsen 10 mark is a good early date. I could sell either over here and make virtually my outlay back (which is what i intend to do) and the one thats left will hopefully only cost me between 30-50. i recently got another rare date 5 mark 1878, they are around 350 from dealers here, i paid £90 from Lockdales, it went into the little mans collection.

Just got these 2. Both German Kaiserreich and both Gold

Ebay Item Came In Empty Package

Depending on the years 2 Sovs would weigh 7.9g each, Double plus some and i'd also be worried unless they were in cases. You simply have to inform the ebayer, tell him you've videoed? yourself opening the packet because it felt light when you received it. Is there any obvious signs of it being opened? Small slits at the ends etc? What would also trouble me is, if as you say you buy to make profit is perhaps the price you've paid, dös that ring Alarm bells that the coins sold cheaper than bullion etc, what is the ebayers feedback like and where is he/she located -
Looks like the 1852 Australian Sov has been withdrawn. It has "no lot" against it

Lcn Lot 1706 - 1905 Halfcrown
azda replied to Colin88's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Vastly overrated at that sort of price IMO Perhaps so Peck, but lets not forget that it was actually for sale at 12k so Platt had to put out in a fair chunk to pull out a profit, lets not assume he got this privately as we know he mostly buys from auctions and scours the internet worldwide like the Rest of us do. He would have paid a nice price for this. If you had the money Peck, would you have turned it down saying its overpriced? Would you have offered him half his 12k only for him to laugh at you? -

azda replied to Colin88's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I did'nt say Mark was elusive, the initials were. Our forum leader had a 1905 to rival this one which i believe he sold or was selling for 10k As for buying cheap, well i would'nt say 8k or 10k is cheap, but the prestige of owning and selling a prime Example would help business immensly, even if it meant making just 1k on it. My assumption is that platt paid a fair bit for it, if Not, why sell within an hour or so of listing it for less than the list price -
According to one of my coin news issues and the DNW website around the turn of the year there should be an auction from DNW on March 19th, but it now looks as though its been incorporated into another auction on the 2nd April. I'm assuming there was'nt enough consignments? (null)

Lcn Lot 1706 - 1905 Halfcrown
azda replied to Colin88's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Sorry Colin, did'nt realise i wastoo know who the elusive M R was supposed to be, many permutations, and of course MP is Martin Platt, i'm just surprised Ras bought this from Platt at that Price, in fact i'm just surprised he bought from Platt period. Obviously it does'nt matter who People buy from as Long as there is something in it for the individual. -

MP to MR. Who is MR? -
It just goes to Show that bidders want at least some value left in the coin and are'nt letting auction houses dictate the prices. I'm glad that Downies has many unsold lots, maybe they'll reduce their silly esrimates next time or advise their consogners that they are expecting to much. All in all, its a good thing. Has the bubble burst?

Thats all. I tried PM Ing you the name of the ebay plonker because i also tried twice to reply to your email and both times it bounced back. You need to do a bit of spring cleaning to your box. I'll try your email again (null)

Sooooooooooooo, finally ebay does something for a seller. Had a very difficult buyer recently. I had an incoming email from him about a coin on BIN. He asked how much (as they do) i just told him to use the best offer button and i'll either accept or decilne. So in Comes an offer which i duly accepted then he Comes in with another offer which i then countered. I had already given him a 60 Pounds Discount on the first and so he wants 150 off the 2nd. I countered him at just 10 Pounds less than the Price i was asking for. In Comes another email saying that he bought the first coin so that he could also get the 2nd for the Price he's offered and he hoped we could find a way Forward, i duly declined his offer with a short note saying i could'nt find a way Forward at his Price. So on we go with the bitching which i duly replied. He then decides not to pay, so i sent a payment reminder through ebay after 4 days of non payment. He duly pays as soon as he got the reminder but then sends me an email saying "i'll be bouncing this straight back to you" I phoned ebay asking them to look into the email and the buyer and they tell me "we'll back you 100%" With a smile on my face i then go back to the buyer and thank him for his email and he should do what he feels right. Anyway he recieves the coin on the 2nd Feb and leaves the obligatory negative saying i don't pander to ebay buyers and i'm a bad seller etc etc etc. He then opens a case as item "not as described" and after the 8 obilgatory days of me not complying to his demands he asks ebay to decide the case. After several days i get an email from an ebay rep saying that they've asked him for Pictures of the coin and his description of why he believes the coin was'nt as graded (which was the same grade as the lockdales grrade) Today i receive an email saying he's LOST; YES HE LOST his case. Today i feel vindicated and finally ebay does something for an ebay seller, had i lost, i would have just auctioned the whole lot and finished with it for good.
