  1. Better make sure it is properly identified somehow now, just in case. So you or someone else doesn't forget what it really is.......
  2. Precisely to what I was referring... (How could I forget.)
  3. Not really..... They just make up new varieties rather than admit they made a mistake.....
  4. From these images, on my cell phone, they BOTH appear to be round beads on both obverse and reverse, F-496.
  5. Not really sure I would say IMPETUOUS, I probably could think of a few choicer words...
  6. I can see a faint image of the upper colon dot after the D. Just very weak. Possibly a partially filled die. Re: The different size colon dots, I've seen them before. Mostly on F-15 central cuts (which are rife with die repairs). Found on a few others too. Probably just a repair to the die. We will never know for sure.
  7. 2 dealers that come to mind immediately, that I had never been disappointed with, are Michael Gouby and the late Laurie Bamford.
  8. Agreed as to overgrading and overpricing.. Also leave something to be desired as to attribution... Purchased 3 coins at various times (Before they offered images). ALL misattributed. Kept 2 as it was cheaper to keep them than return them. 3rd one I returned as it was a more expensive variety (turns out it wasn't ). And wasn't going to eat that one. Haven't puchased from them in more than a decade....
  9. Mine is the one pictured in Michael Gouby's book.. Not sure if I have it handy, not home right now, but I'll check later. .
  10. That's what makes this hobby so great. Both ends of the spectrum and we both enjoy it. Not to mention the knowledge gained and the camaraderie shared.
  11. Magnificent specimen Richard, however my humble specimen was probably the better bargain for €.99 (about $1.49 at the time)
  12. Thanks for the corroboration... I qualify it with "looks like" because I'm looking at a cell (mobile) phone screen. That being said, I wouldn't even offer an opinion unless I was 99+% sure of what it was. I just allow that small amount of doubt to be there because it is a small screen.
  13. Hi Bob,

    Gary Schindler here..

I just got your offer on ebay for the 1862 F-41... (I'm helping a friend out with additional listings....)

    I can't do $500 on the coin....

I was hoping to walk away with $1000 for the coin...

Obviously we can do the transaction here, avoid ebay fees and I can send Chris a contribution toward the website....

Call me on my cell phone if you want to try to work out a deal....

    917-273-7719....

    Regards,

    Gary

  14. This is all a lot of S--T.....
  15. I would probably have to concur with that assessment. I've only ever found the one specimen in my collection... Probably about the same grade....
  16. Let's play nicely... Let's not bare our fuangs...
  17. You'll have to allow me some flexibility inasmuch as I'm across the pond. In the mid 1960's I received an 1863 Civil War Token in change. Also, a different time, an 1864 Indian Head cent. Late last year I received a SILVER Seated Liberty Dime (10 cent piece) in change. Too worn to determine year, but was the type issued before 1866. Oldest coin ever received was a worn, bent coin from Hispaniola. Mexican or such from late 1600's. 1681 or thereabouts if memory serves me correctly. About the size of a dime ( 10 cent piece), I got it in change in the late 1960's or in 1970. I was still in High School, so I know it had to be before June of 1970. Only explanation I can think.of is that the Passer did not know what it was and just wanted to get rid of it so they did not get stuck with it.
  18. There's always the remote chance it was the correct coin with the wrong images posted..... Happened to me once..... Made purchase based on the description. Looking at images was clearly 2 different coins...... A Long shot, but it happens....
  19. Precisely... It's just wonderfull when only one side is shown, especially when it's not showing the date... I really dislike the use of stock pictures in certain catagories, especially coins, stamps, and other collectables....
