This dawned on me the other day. I had watched this 1719 so called 1/2d...in hindsight obviously a 1/4d on a 1/2d flan....I had taken the description for granted. I never put a proper bid in ...Then on Sunday I was flicking thru Colin Cooke catalogue 36 with the write ups on 1717 -1719....bells started ringing. The coin is BMC 813....NO EXAMPLE KNOWN OUTSIDE THE BRITISH MUSEUM (Colin Cookes words).List 36 I think I'm cute when it comes to 1/4ds Ebay/coin dealers et all but I missed this bugger. If I had bought this blind (MS62) I would expect something better. I bought 40 Scottish 1959 1/-'s a few years back for less than 50p each. In some old coin monthlies ( from the 70's) they were advertised as key dates and selling for several £'s each...as were 1960 crowns....maybe an investment. Or were the million or so 1959's taken from circulation and now exist in top drawers all over the country.

I notice the 3rd prong on the trident is well worn....on the way to becoming the elusive 2 prong 1840. I love the WW doubling. IMO as good a variety as some already accepted ones. Peter

I've just done a quick mental top up and for insurance I reckon about £375/£400. A dealer MIGHT offer you £100 to £200....and on Ebay hit & miss but the Crowns even in reletivley low grade are snapped up.....you might get £300+ (but then you might have to post 20 odd packages ) BTW the crowns will have rim markings ie the 1900 will have either LX111 or LXIV (From 1893 there are 2 markings for each date) I bet where you have two of the same date you have I of each. Not a bad start for a collection by any means.

Teg My W & M was purchased pre computer days so I couldn't swipe a proffessional picture from the dealer. I'm currently experimenting with my scanner but feel I will end up spending out on a decent digital camera. My girls have a Sony point and shoot and this beats my scanner. Just to whet your appetite the obverse is fantastic and the copper is top class Peter.

I bought my NVF from a well respected dealer that is why I gave this one GF. It is apparent most people over grade early copper. Nice examples are fairly rare. This one certainly has eye appeal.

The Anne farthing does not look right.There are so many forgeries . However even copies are sought after and Ebay is full of gullible mugs.

Hi It looks like William and Mary farthing in GF condition... on Ebay it would probably make £30 to £40.

I don't profess to being a snob...comprehensive school education etc .....but the experience of the general public on EBAY and how I go thru life in general I really can't believe how THICK Mr average GB is. My rant is further extended by my 9 year olds daughters teacher who explains " Kate is above average in subjects" but fails to explain why my youngest is not aufait with her tables to 12x. The only time I've lost anything is when using recorded delivery. A secure envelope without the coins rattling about and a 1st class stamp seems to do the trick.

Chris See if you can get your hands on a spiral bound red book. CCGB would be great in that format.
