I bought a load of old coin mags (late 60's to early 80's) and they are full of information on varieties,surveys etc. I even have the edition when the 1915 no gap in BRITT farthing is 1st mentioned. I started working my way through the magazines and inserting post its on interesting articals with a veiw of photocopying and binding these together. There is a lot of stuff worthy of publishing....but 13 varieties of a 1902 1d ......mmmmm

Gothic florins 1851-87 have the date in Roman numerals on the obverse ie 1856= mdccclvi m=1000 d=500 c=100 l=50 v=5 i=1 It should be possible to date any unworn coin...however I confess I sometimes have difficulty as the letters are sometimes strange to say the least. What date is your 1/4d to guinea set....its going to worth a considerable sum regardless.

Its larger and heavier than an evasive piece. The majority of evasive pieces were produced by melting down legal tender and producing lighter coins to pass as currency. The largest George 11 copper coin was the halfpenny weighing between 9.7 - 10.3g and 28-30 dia. evasive pieces would be inside these limits I'll go with a commemorative medlet. Hi Atif If you search the net you will find clubs that hold regular detecting rallies etc. Try Dei Gratia and it will give you some links. There is a monthly coin fair at the NEC motorcycle museum. There are some fantastic coins on display as well as bargin bin boxes which seem popular. Its on the 2nd Sunday of everymonth and opens at 10am.Admission for adults was £1.50. I saw that. The seller wasn't a coin dealer and a little knowledge is a dangerous thing(probably borrowed spinks from the library) I would need to see a good image to bid. ....But I hope you've got a bargain.

The obverse is so wrong. They didn't circulate. Cast iron (excuse the pun) copy.

Obviously the Sunday supplement adverts are proving expensive!!!! Whilst it is good that they try and attract collectors if they gave you a link their trade would realise what a rip off they are.

I agree with the manual sniping...I indeed set my price and have a stopwatch set to Ebay time. If I lose it OK...a recent coin went for £175+ my best offer was £16.89 with 7 seconds to go.

I,ve seen lesser examples and at least the pictures give you a clue....quite frankly I've bought EF described as Fine Recently I got a George 111 shilling UNC for 2.99 as the picture was crap and the seller honest... EBAY is for fools....there are bargains and complete rip offs....I will always use it...just sort out the fastest finger syndrome.

Previous generations have enamelled coins,stuck gold guineas in mounts & the Chavs love their sovereign rings......I have been collecting UK coins for 40 years and visiting Coin Fairs for 25 years. The toning isn't natural and mine (including future purchases) will not have it.

I have just got the attached shilling and I'm sure you are aware Portrait Lizzies are rare as Free range Hens teeth. It is my intention to concentrate on Lizzies this year. I'm just asking for an opinion on grade (obviously flan,clipping etc all comes into play). MMMM....Don't like the toning.....none of mine are like that and I don't often see this at UK coin fairs. Must be a American thing....not for us Brits. Artificial toning Kits are a BIG NO NO.

Its probably toy money manufactured by Lauer in Germany.....and worth pence. There have been several threads recently if you search....sorry to diss appoint.

Lauer (German company) manufactured minute toy coins. Over the years I've aquired a few. They are not worth a lot apart from novelty factor.

If you've found a hoard its in UK numismatics interest its recorded and documented...those coins are worth ££££ and you will be compensated fully.

My sentiments too Geordie. The only time I have seen dug coins in this condition is when they have been in a pot (ie hoard)

Actually you're probably right, all the 'buyer' ever seems to have been involved with before was selling secondhand computer games or some such nonsense. I hope no poor innocent got stung. Both seller and buyer are from Cleethorpes....it looks like a shill.
