If the Penny is average circulation then a few pence only. Silver pre 47 is making 8-10x face and pre 20 double that.....don't forget though that a sixpence is only 2.5 pence If you look on Ebay there are 1000's of worthless coins for sale but you might get some ideas on prices.

Peter I was also watching that one!! It certainly has eye appeal. 1734 is a difficult date...as it happens there is a lesser 1734 finishing tomorrow but it is not very nice and has a tinge of green...I won't be bidding. Several of Mr Bennets coins also went for good money (1731,41 & 1856). The market for copper still seems strong.

1960 crowns were making a fortune in the 60/70's as were all the buzz key dates. Common coins such as Geo 111 Shillings George 11 Lima are still making far over the top. One particular coin I'm arfter tonight is still nicely priced.....I can feel a snipe coming on.

I would suggest by using a DSLR. I will not be scanning my coins again.

The ones I have received I have kept and cut them up when necessary and have used them again. They are so simple and a great idea....we must be able to manufacture them in the UK for pence.

I have a Peck and a Freeman's book (also Montague) but I have never really studied my 1d's. A lot of my 1d's came out of circulation and I have added to over the years so my 20C collection is probably EF minimum except for KN's ME etc. I have several obviously different die coins for the Bun pennies. My main passion is farthings so I need to check my 1d's for open 3 1903's slender 3 in 1863 etc. I do have a few 1895 2mm which Freeman rates as rare.....these I have picked up over time as they have always been noted as a rarity. My wife caught me reading Freemans book this evening and when I mentioned varieties and told her about 6 obverses and 5 obverses for the same date she gave me that look. However its what floats your boat............I was estatic when I got my 2 prong 1840 1/4d which isn't wildley published.....but I won't be looking for die varieties of this date....although I have another example where the prong is fading....sad isn't it. Just enjoy the hobby.

Farthings ?????? For £2 you can't go wrong. However when serious collecting buy the best you can afford otherwise you end up constantly up grading....Like me

I would recomend the Midland fair at the NEC motorbike museum.Every month and 4 times per year when they let all dealers in. Take cash and a decent eye glass (the lighting in variable) and enjoy from 10p coins to thousands. I actually take my family up and stay at the Coventry Village hotel with its 25m pool.(less than £70 including breackfast thru laterooms) My kids actually insist I go Last time I bought Vol 1 North for £10 and a 1770 1/2d in EF for £23 (the seller was a silver mulla) There are bargains but be prepared to dig deep.

A bit of grafitti on the obverse which is interesting in its own right. Usually the queens head is practically invisible. Also a nice round flan. On ebay with a decent picture finishing on a Sunday evening I would expect up to £40....but equally it might slip through on a Monday lunch time for less than £10.

I received my catalogue today. The 1d's are too specialised for my collection (I might even have rare varieties and not know it....there's a task for those long winter nights) How lot 5 ever got ID'd beggars belief....it would of gone straight in my junk tin......and the 1/4d's aren't currency although the Liz Peck 741 is gorgeous (estimate £2k to £2.4k). Also I don't remember a 15% buyers premium on the Cooke collection of farthings.

I've got a few coins like this. The cross indicates C1200 Valance French denier but it could be feudal French (Geoffrei) into the next century. I'm no expert (yet) as the reading information is not widley available in English. I've had some success with assistance on ID at Coinpeople.com

I can clearly recall my parents talking about this as it was the hype leading up to decimalisation and the beginning of Rotograhic and "Check your change" I was allowed to sift through their card money tin and my father worked at an agriculture outlet which had a till so I amassed quite a few key dates and Victorian coins.
