  1. If you walk around the Midland looking for a common coin like a 1758 1/- you will see huge differences...then look at Ebay and say you bloody idiots. How can you catalogue a coin worth (in my eyes £20)and its selling between £15 to £125
  2. Go on Azda...tell us all how much it's going for.
  3. Yes, but not on bronze. There is/was an odd light greenish tinge on the reverse, in artificial light, to a 1923 a/UNC shilling I bought in August 2009. Leastways it was visible for a time. When I just looked a few minutes ago it wasn't there ~ or didn't appear to be. Definitely not verd, but a overall slight hue. Lord knows what causes it. Greenish hue on silver? Are you sure it's not simply the result of past long-term storage in pvc coin album pages? If it is, acetone works wonders. I bought a bulk lot of Unc (recent) 2/6's and they originally had a bad green hue due to pvc storage...I will try the acetone trick to completely cure them.
  4. Numishoro Where did you actually get the coin? If you paid more than £1.50 you need to get your money back. If it was a dealer some of us can you if he/she is a crook. If you still think it is authentic send it to be slabbed at CGS. My 1st and only fake purchase was down to me being greedy and buying on the strength of a poor photograph. If I was buying expensive early hammered I will only part with my money with a few trusted dealers or inspection by hand.
  5. The last one sold for £17,800 in 2008 and that was a worn coin and was sold by a small auctioneer "oop Norf". Imagine selling it through a London auction house with publicity.
  6. I mean honestly, what a load of twonk. Poetic licence with Wills (Rocker!)hair and kate looks a bit squinty eyed and puggish
  7. Ashmore a possibility? What is the coins provenance?
  8. We were talking about coin mags on another thread....This is why I still have my old CM's but the Coin News are usually binned after about 3 months.
  9. Rasmssen sold one in 2006 £37,500. probably a doctored 1951 so £122 is a lot pay for this.
  10. There are 2 known examples and one of those is in British museum. You just wouldn't put it on ebay.
  11. These Saps deserve a neck shot.I would happily dish out a slap.
  12. Bob we do... From looks to reliability and the reward my wife gave me a no brainer. It clunks and is the best car in over 30 years and still has 2 years guarentee.....apart from a PUG 205 which I bought for pence (taking car allowance 10 years ago)...why did I sell it? I take my mother shopping every week and she prefers the coupe with its heated seat etc
  13. We are going through a phase of enlightenment...my kids appreciate 1698 & 1717 farthings etc but once questioned don't appreciate 1840 2 pronged farthings or R over E's.Look at Spink and it fails.
  14. I want a Porsche Cayman....cannot be more expensive than a Vauxhall Vectra....a word of warning...I had Ford company cars for 25 years (crap) and since I've had vauxhalls.guess what ...Hyundia next...my wife's coupe is bomb proof even servicing is half the price and nothing goes wrong.
  15. Thanks Bob Looks like a job for tonight. I need to calm down after my daughters fought over my DSLR last night and snapped the lens...I had just won £10 on the lottery and bought a 1853 incuse 1/4d for peanuts and also had a few bob on Birmingham beating Arsenal. Then my garage phoned and repairs to my car will be £1000.
  16. .I had half a dozen 1988's plucked from circulation and then I bought a BU for £3.50 so I spent them.
  17. Let us see outer Mongolia special 10p editions and the latest banknotes from Asia.....sorry not interested. Mr Mussell please take note.
  18. D of DEI to a bead L of HALF to a bead Really is that a variety? I get calm sea 57 but maybe I'm missing something.
  19. Yep I have no interest whatsoever.
  20. I bought a bulk lot of CM's and earlier mags and have tagged all the interesting articals. They are by my bedside and used for constant reference.Old Coin news mags end up in the blue bin.
  21. thats excellent news Sense prevails Maybe its a lesson for all of us.
  22. I have 3. 2 from circulation and 1 for £4.99 (bit better than fine). I can't say they are very rare..at least not against other coins which just don't appear on Ebay or lists or fairs...we all know what they are don't we.
  23. It is his mistake...the way he has acted is pathetic. Report him to Ebay. I once won a GVF gothic florin for £10 as England were playing in the world cup & yes he claimed he had misplaced it.
  24. That's a 'how long is a piece of string?' question. No two coins are the same, some dates are more desirable than others and some denominations are more desirable than others. Coupled with the fact that not all desirable dates for one denomination are the same as those for a different denomination and you can easily see that there is no straightforward answer. The first thing you need to do is acquaint yourself with grades and grading. Get some experience in grading coins and see what they sell for when compared with references such as CCGB or Spink. ebay is not the best indicator of pricing because too many things sell for far more than they should and conversely so. In the case of pennies and farthings, 1849 is a good starting point, though you might take a while to get out of the blocks. Obviously the price to buy for needs to be lower than a selling price, but things starting at an elevated price on ebay frequently don't sell because most buyers are greedy. They want everything for 99p and consequently most will disregard the £100 coin priced at £75 BIN because they live in hope that the seller will give up trying to realise a decent price and offer them the chance of a real steal rather than a bargain. okay i shall have a good trawl through 1849 thanks for the advice my i aask what CCGB is an SPINK ? Collectors Coins Great Britain & Spink are the main reference for all UK coins....don't bother buying coins until you have these bad boys. Predecimal produce CCGB and I would suggest you start with this (1797 - 2010).On the Predecimal main site Chris gives advice on key dates....don't expect to make money buying and selling on Ebay...it is hit and miss.
  25. Offer and acceptance and the other scenario of caveat emptor. This will be interesting. If I were Torcoins I would honour it...you have ample time to check your listing before uploading and if you don't check an expensive coin then suffer you must.
