  1. I bet Mr Torcoins mouth has just gone dry and a cold sweat has ensued.
  2. Melt price for sovereigns is just less than £200 (just over 8 grams of 22ct gold). No metal melter would scrap anything decent unless he was brain dead.
  3. Smiths in Bury St Eds doesn't stock it. Considering how much I spend on coins £34 isn't much. I agree with Bob.."a view from the bay" is often interesting and there are sometimes interesting subjects written on but compared to CM it isn't in the same league.
  4. I have no problems with melting coins. No one would melt anything which is worth more than the copper /silver /gold content and it would get rid of a lot of rubbish.I would also like to melt a few Ebay sellers who list junk.
  5. Coin news still stands alone...I got the subscription for Xmas £34...most issues are fairly bland and read in less than an hour. With the old CM there were interesting surveys/pieces on varieties and I often bought from the adverts. I do go for periods without CN but return....pity it can't improve.
  6. outbid again I shall wait for the snipe. but don't tell anyone
  7. Thanks for that Hus, it will give me a chance to try and at least study images of one!! Looks like you have struck gold...Well done.
  8. Scott I have hundreds of varieties (or subtle differences with pre 1775 1/4d's) Whenever I go for an upgrade or just can't resist another it will invariably be different and end up as a keeper. I keep my 1/4d's in Linder trays and from experience leave big gaps between dates . Post 1806 and Colin has done the donkey work...although I won't search for every variety...yet
  9. The Yanks will pay a huge premium for a MS66 against MS64 although both are uncirculated...its the need to have the best which drives the price up.Love it or hate it if punters are prepared to pay...let them. It knocks Spink prices ...so if you have a really brilliant BU that you want to sell it maybe worth slabbing (as long as it is a fairly valuable coin)
  10. Freddy Go to the new content button at the top right of your screen. You will see an 83 page thread on new aquistions.
  11. It has got a few dings which isn't unusal on these big lumps of copper. Collectors coins GB books this in VF @ £55.This is what a dealer will sell for.Try selling one to dealer
  12. It took the fun out of collecting for a young collector as my sources were famiy, neighbours etc who pulled Vickies from change. Getting coins from amusement arcades was also the highlight of a trip to the coast. My parents bought me a coin album for my fourth birthday. So I managed a few years of searching for date runs and upgrades.
  13. Simon good to see you posting...a forum god in the making.
  14. Apologies for that...I was eating my sarnie and the wife often sees what I write(yes you babe
  15. They just don't understand, do they? Having indicated how much a specific lot was likely to go for, I was told to go out and get it. Having duly bought it for 25% less than I expected to pay, I was told I was spending too much on coins. I guess the first sentence being on Tuesday and the second on the Thursday after the sale - I hadn't been around during that day to get in the **** until then. Wimmin...they wouldn't know a Queen Anne if they farted one...although my daughters are taking an interest in Dads coins.
  16. Don't just look at the value. The history bit is far nicer...when you can afford a Queen Anne farthing or a 1717 farthing you have arrived....hang on I'm here
  17. I would not touch it
  18. After spending an enjoyable evening cleaning carpets and a fortune on cleaning fluid (we have a springer who swims in the local river and luvs wabbits and birdies)...hence mucky paws. Is laminate or wood flooring the best for our lounge and dining room. The dining room leads off to the conservatory where he exits and enters for a wee. The laminates at homebase or Topps tiles seem a good option...but as you only do it once is proper wood any better...and yes I will get a skin in to lay it. Homebase are offering 15% discount this weekend..any tips or experiences would be appreciated.
  19. It could be fun to do a post of the day whether informative or funny....Dereck I like your reasoning but please tell me where your source of magic mushrooms are.
  20. Actually there is a link in the links secrion to a world Bank note book, rhis is why i started a limks secrion Fat fingers today Azda....or is your key board kapput...Ya
  21. Try uploading a picture at coinpeople....Predecimal isn't a banknote forum although if British we could give a value. Condition is everything...so don't iron it.
  22. Silly money is being paid for scrap silver on the bay and even coin news.In 2007 I did a charity car boot with a box of coins and £20 of scrap silver...I was only after 5x face and this included pre 1920.Glad it didn't sell
  23. Welcome to the forum Rose. We are a friendly bunch.Any questions please add a picture...it makes life so much easier.
  24. Amazon have offered a refund...but I will hang in there. Any new major varieties are always welcome....I'm sure with a bit of forum help it can go further...maybe back to 1672...anything post 1967 can go. 1/4ds and 1/2ds from CC sales catalogues?
  25. It is a cracking strike. Get it slabbed and put it on US ebay
