1830 GEORGE IV BRITISH FARTHING
Peter replied to Benmnynevis's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'd say less than F - Britannia's body is worn almost flat. But I'd echo the welcome. I think you are being a bit harsh there, the wear is to the drapery across the legs, part of the armour is still just barely visible, and the helmet detail is still pretty good (although this tends to be one of the last places to go). Shield design is worn but not excessively, this area I would argue wears quicker on the farthing than other denominations, bear in mind this is not one of those large frisbees you lot collect I managed to find the coin on ebay (hence the cheeky, tongue in cheek comment above), and the Obverse still shows a fair amount of deep hair detail as would be expected on a fine example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1830-GEORGE-IV-BRITISH-FARTHING-FARTHING-NICE-GRADE-/221014376344?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item33757bbf98 uncanny Colin...look you've made me waste another 5 minutes -

Lol, i won't do that Peter, eventually people will waken up to what they BOTH do. The info on him is around the internet, a lot of people know what they do, so if they want to keep getting burnt then it's up to them. With his UNC grading, he's obviously going to try for top end price. Lets sit back and see where it goes.Any bets on price? I'm going for 4 figures at least It's also interesting that this account is not a business account, but that is clearly what they are doing. eBay are usually pretty smart at making the link between connected accounts. I had a separate account under my 16 year old daughters name(she was the selling arm of Peter Global Enterprises LTD) The account was linked to Mrs Peters card and bank account. Ebay told me to close the account because she was under 18.I mentioned she was old enough to be married and considerably brighter than the flock of numpties at Ebay. Only 14 months to go...but hey my family allowance -

Gary My idea also.Trouble is though I'm caught in the 67/68 retirement. No one has challenged this. 2 or 3 years of pension of which I have paid many times over going to some geek. My private pension has not been added to since 2004 but I have bought art, coins, and a few nice bits.My pension is worth less today than it was in 2004.Gordon friggin Brown and his band of tossers. -

Let me say that the highest earners pay proportionally less tax. Corporation tax was 21% After I paid my wife as a director and drove around the globe a couple of times. -
Sunny side up with a blob of mustard please Huss.

It's Mission Impossible. Define which coins there should be spaces for - every Peck, Freeman, Satin, and Gouby variety? All date spacings? Unbarred H's? Doubled letters in the legend? Missing serifs? Recut letters or numerals? 2's and 3's at varying angles? Every instance of ultra-rare die number even if you couldn't possibly get them? Define your own complete series, and put them in a blank album using Coindex flips where you can print or write the details on a slip of coloured card that slots into the upper flip. The only bespoke albums are - for example - the Whitman series, but they only contain the major varieties. Or I use Lighthouse trays and Qudrum capsules, but there are similar products from other manufacturers (see the shop on this website). The beauty of these systems is that you can move coins around to only create spaces that you actually hope to fill. Labelling of my coins is ongoing so not all in this photo have labels. My respect for you is growing. My daughters are learning all the time and have suggested online/offline storage. get them recorded so when you are dead and gone that rare variety doesn't get sold for peanuts. -
Unless I am certain I do not attempt to grade coins I put on Ebay. I sometimes mention minimal wear or at least vf (too good to scrap 20C silver). Who remembers John Minishul aka Farthing specialist...he had good almost Very good delightful GF ++++++++ Top bloke though who invariably sent me a letter with my coins. In the days before internet you got a good idea. With Colin I phoned an order for a coin and he told me I wouldn't like it.Now that is a dealer to whom I will return again and again.

Apart from Laurie Bamford and Freeman who else has got close to completing the Vickie Buns? When I see washers going for over £20k -
OK I'm ready to be shot down. I have attempted to get a really good set of Edward V11 copper coins.Yep the lowest grade 1/4d is GEF and I have recently done 1903,06,09 in UNC 1/2d's. The silver produces some expensive wants.A quality 1903 2/6 would buzz me.
-
Eh...? Thinking in my head.LOL. I am a genius who takes the pee out of pathetic attempts on Eggheads.(why do some bother?)or a loving husband and father that despite being angry with his lot buys twisters, hungry hippo's and doesn't buy cigars
-
I won't defend or any other dealer. Every coin I buy usually has an image. It must be awful for every dealer to downgrade his coins.I don't buy GVF and expect EF. CC has noticeably let his sights down with early copper since his untimely death. It is a shift in the market where GF has become VF.
-
Yeh Man Apart from some good Black or Red send me your Pre 1947 coins.
-
As everyone has said, both coins are around F and no better (an EF description is outrageous). According to VR Court's survey, around 1 in 40 1926 pennies are ME so, with a (low) mintage of 4.4M only circa 100,000 MEs were produced. Typically ME's of the grade shown sell for £30-£90. VF, EF and UNC grades seem to command from a few hundred up to £2-3K. If you can get from Ebay that level for NF/F ME's help me with UNC scottish 1/-. 99p or not sold...these buggers made a fortune back in the 60's but a shite 1887 jubliee will make £25.Go to a coin fair and buy them for £2.
-
Get an example EF+ or don't bother.Tight ship and all that. Plus for over 100 years these have been studied. However the close TT 1915 1/4d was only discovered 30 years ago. I must of bought over 100 in the last 20 years..good job these go for nice £ over EF. I might add the coins have all been common 1915's
-
I know it is awful but the couple and kids in our bungalow cannot buy until they inherit. We started off with very little but stretched ourselves. No loans apart from mortgage. The trouble is our tenants have 2 brand new cars and holiday abroad every year.No doubt no pension...but who in their right frame of mind trusts this. Buy coins.
-
Here is one for you Peter. Cannot remember where this came from. Weight 11.68g Diameter 31.9mm 2mm thick. Nice It happened and always will happen.I now look at the wider perspective. If the £ isn't too different I will always buy Suffolk,East Anglian,English,British,Western Europe,Commonwealth in that order. My exceptions are Label Rouge French products.(even if those armpits smell and the majority are soap dodgers)
-
I sent one back to CC because of the grading Colin died 7 years ago. I sent coins back before he died. Overall one of the better honest dealers. Jeffrey,Barry Murphy,Saltford,Anthony Hulse,Ian Pratt(sells at the Midland) are all highly recommended. and Cambridge Coins for the bargains
-
Both coins are marginal Fine.I look at the shield. The question about ME or not doesn't come into it.I have about a dozen better than this but won't sell because of the joys of Ebay.I could describe a F as VF and get a happy buyer at £50 or the same coin with no description for .99p. I don't know if anyone else saw him but at the Midland last year there was an idiot selling Victorian silver at least 3 grades over stated (no kidding).I just laughed and walked away.
