  1. Now what is happening here? http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p4340.l2565&rt=nc&item=180865951698
  2. I had a better one nicked by our lovely postal workers and it was only £30. I think the dark areas make your (non won) coin look better than it is.
  3. A love token too! :-) I've picked up on the MP thing along the way, was there a thread on it? I'm intrigued as to the details! ;-) There are a lot of threads on shill bidding. If you search the forum with "shill bidding" you get 32 threads Several of the scumbagS who are involved I vow I will never buy from.
  4. I'm going to hold back my two 1792's until the market picks up again
  5. I have picked up some good stuff from German Ebay.Luck comes into it. When looking at US Ebay there tends to be less competition. There is less rubbish than the 49,950 bits of 10p crap that is on UK.
  6. I've picked up some absolute bargains from US dealers. It takes a lot of patience. The rewards are there though. I shall not be divulging my source
  7. It was bad enough having 480 1/2d's to £1. Bearing in mind they were the size of 2p's
  8. That is amazing for a cent. OK it is rare but.... imagine the portfolio of hammered gold you could put together for the same $ I know what I would prefer.
  9. One for Azda's buddy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beautiful-Silver-1685-James-II-Half-Crown-Made-Into-Love-Token-1791-/320888141566?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item4ab66c76fe#ht_669wt_1270
  10. There is a 1844 1/4d on ebay under an alias.
  11. Happy birthday Dave Have a great evening.Did you get a card from MP?
  12. So that is what tails means. I prefer the bust
  13. 6d's are an underated series.Quite easy though for the 20C (1952 being the key date)1958 is also difficult??? It took a while to get a BU at the right price....£2 (I know the location of a GEF for £1 but I haven't the cheek to order it) Have you looked at William 111.It is a minefield and will keep you off the streets
  14. Although obviously it would have been better without the cleaning, it may be one of those coins where the damage is far less obvious in the hand than in the photograph. Whatever the situation, the cleaning of silver reduces the value far less than would be the case with a Brassoed bronze or copper coin. Damn I've just finished my 1698's & 1717...I did use duraglit though
  15. I noticed the cleaning There are faint hairlines and it just isn't right. Why do people spoil what could of been a respectable coin.
  16. Sounds like Turkey it is. Plenty of history/coins there. You will have to brush up on your Roman.
  17. Dave Even though you spend time with your coins I have clearly picked up that you are doing it with your lad in mind.Don't sell his coins. Everyone needs a release. Mrs Peter and my girls have actually said they like my interest in coins. The girls because of the fiscal nature(their inheritance)and Mrs Peter because we talk. Through my coin interest we have at least 4 nights every year away in a Hotel. We just make sure the Hotel does good food and has a pool. I am allowed out on a long leash occasionally but the desire to catch the night ferry to the Hook of Holland has lost its appeal :o
  18. Looks like NGC and PCGS are behind this. As Generic says "there is no benefit to buyers or sellers" apart from the latter.
  19. In my defence I would say that the 'window event' happened a good many years ago when I was not actually collecting, so that may itself say that since I've become a coin collector again I am no longer interested in teenage girls sunbathing topless. And this in turn may all be used as evidence that the coin collector is in fact nerdy and whoever posted the original heading to this thread had actually hit the nail on the head by saying we are all in fact anti-social creeps! Phew! Anyway, to continue another point made above concerning coin clubs. The big problem that I have always had is that short of heading into Central London, there really aren't any within reasonable striking distance; yes, I do regularly attend Reading CC where I have a table and generally an enjoyable evening out but it is an hour's drive away and you would need to be pretty committed to attend on anything like a regular basis. My point here I guess is that there just aren't enough clubs out there to make coin collecting a more sociable activity. Whether this is due to there not being enough collectors sociable enough to found societies, or just not enough collectors in total is obviously open to conjecture. My Lud I was a only 13 when the offence occurred and I tripped and fell against the fence where I was lodged and couldn't move. I now have two teenage daughters...I've checked my neighbours and they are not into coins...phew Through collecting I only know of 3 other collectors within a 10 mile radius. You are not going to announce your hobby from the roof tops for obvious reasons...hence no local club.
  20. My next door neighbour's 18-year old daughter used to hide behind a bush and sunbathe topless in their garden. I discovered this one day when up a ladder painting the window frames; whilst I couldn't see her directly, the reflection in the window altered the angle and revealed all. By the time I had finished there was 1/2" of paint on the sill... When I was about 13 my neighbours 2 late teen daughters sun bathed topless in their secluded garden....there was an 8ft timber fence between the gardens....however the fence was old and at the knots holes had formed.A hot sunny day in the school holidays and my garden became the venue. And the nickname "Pervy Peter the pine knot popper" was born :D Too small for a glory hole I'm afraid

  22. Red More like Turkish Raki. I flew on the Greek stuff.
  23. Are you losing interest? I'm just reducing mine to a manageable state. I still buy but I'm very selective.
  24. He was as orange as you can get and supported Rangers I think John uses his flies and flying condoms (true name for a type of Salmon lure)
  25. Buy Englands striking history it will introduce you gently and in a readable way to hammered. It is a Rotographic book and a bargain.
