The most I have spent on a coin from Ebay is £200. I know what I'm buying and a detailed research is always made. Anything under £100 I'm prepared to take an educated risk. I bought a Henry V1 groat this morning which is Calais mint and without annulets. From a known dealer,done the research...Looks good pewter and the MM R is well struck up.

Years ago a large group of aquaintance's got together and formed a club (OIC)it stood for over indulgence club.It worked to an extent but Mrs Peter wasn't too happy.(Partners were invited to a do once a year) It is not running now but favouritism still exists. The tin farthing also looks quite good apart from the hole on the OBV. It is a hole? Did you also sell this? LOL...you 1D boys Tin farthings were plugged with copper/brass to discourage forgery. Early Charles 1st farthings were often given brass wedges.

I have a 1949 edition Full title is Seaby's catalogues-Copper coins and tokens-British Isles A wonderful reference; It covers Roman coins struck in Britain during the occupation,Anglo-Saxon sceats,English copper coins 1860-1936,Billion and copper coins of Scotland,Irish coppers etc,Coins and tokens of the Isle of Man,Coins of Lundy Island,Copper coins and tokens of the Channel islands,17C tokens,An introduction to 18C tradesmen's tokens (by Peck ),18C tokens,19C silver tokens & 19C copper tokens. I note that this publication records the large date 1737 1/4d which that "slacker" Peck missed 11 years later The preface lists Trade tokens in the 17C by W Boyne 1889-91 Provincial token coinage of 18C D&H 1910-18 The silver token coinage by Dalton 1922 The 19C token coinage by WJ Davis 1904 Seaby goes on to say the book is not a complete list as he was aware of 15,000 copper 17C tokens Happy hunting Dave....is there a book in you?

Trouble is the so called experts are not. Even third party grading companies sometimes get items seriously wrong.On this forum we have experts who do specialise. One particular BNTA member sold me a known about rare variety for common issue prices (I didn't complain).My next dealing with him he messed up and wasted my time as what he thought he had...he hadn't. . There are well known dealers (innocently) selling Chinese fakes on Ebay and Auction houses often mess up(mostly noted by members of this forum).Hang around and post more Thames mud goodies.
